I feel that I have been blatantly ripped off but maybe I am over reacting. Please read all these posts, starting from the bottom, and tell me what you think. I have repeatedly asked Microair a number of questions but they have flatly refused to answer any of them. The only emails I have had are a couple from Carol Bretag (I think she is the sales manager) telling me it is entirely my own fault that I now have a second-hand radio, because I asked for urgent action. I had paid NZ$1760 for a new radio that failed the first time I turned it on and I was then told to send it back to Australia (and wait at least a month) for it to be repaired and sent back to me. I don't think it was unreasonable to ask them to send out another one, and when Carol said she was despatching a replacement immediately I didn't think for one moment it would be a well used, repaired second-hand one. Then Carol told me this radio was as good as new because it had a full warranty and was only scratched. But the Release Certificate that came with it says "Repaired". Then I got an email from Graham the Service Coordinator, telling me they had checked the new one that I sent back and that there was nothing wrong with it. And he said I probably had a fault in my installation. My old radio had been working perfectly except one frequency had failed and the numbers on the screen had all faded so you could hardly read them. Otherwise it was fine. And the "replacement" second-hand radio also works perfectly. When the fault occurred and the red transmit light was flashing to indicate a stuck PTT, when you pressed the PTT button you could clearly hear the sidetone click on and off. This would tend to indicate that it was not actually transmitting even though the red light said it was. We completely removed the PTT wire, removed the aerial from the back of the radio, and removed the headsets, but the red light just kept on flashing But then after a few minutes, or the next time you turned it on, it might work perfectly. Graham asked me what did I want to do? Keep the second-hand one (that I had paid full price for), or pay them to freight the new one back and send the second-hand one back to them. (about NZ$100 cost to me in total.) But presumably the new one STILL HAS THE FAULT IN IT and if it fails again the whole saga starts all over again and I have to pay yet more money to send it back to Australia !!!!! The questions that I have repeatedly asked Microair are: In view of the points that I have outlined above what could possibly be wrong with my installation that would cause this fault? They have refused to answer me. Will they appoint someone in New Zealand (who they will believe) to come and inspect my installation, at my expense, and advise them whether or not I have a fault in my installation? They have refused to answer me. In view of the fact that New Zealand has a very cold and humid climate in August, and the climate at Microairs's factory is very hot and dry, did they subject my new radio to cold humid conditions before they tested it for a fault? They have refused to answer me. If I pay them to send my new radio back to me and it fails again, will they refund all my freight costs, and then give me a new replacement? They have refused to answer me. Why did the original owner of the second-hand radio return it to Microair, and why did they keep it and not send it back to the original owner after it was repaired? They have refused to answer me. Would they give me the name and address of the original owner? They have refused to answer me. After weeks of pestering them for answers, yesterday I finally got a reply from Mr Ian Mugan the General Manager. All he said was that I had to decide which radio to keep, and that this was the limit of Microair's warranty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In all my 67 years I have never felt so backed into a corner and I still don't know what to do. But much to my surprise it was an old well worn one that Microair had repaired and it was 320 serial numbers before the new one I got. In the meantime I have given the new one back to the agent but Microair are now saying that because the old "replacement" has a full factory warranty it is a FAIR SWAP for my new one !!!!!!!!!!! I have paid full price for a new radio and have ended up with an old second hand one that had been returned to Microair for repair !!! But at least it does work OK. I am currently exchanging some heated emails and will keep you posted on developments. After a bit of arm twisting Microair have agreed to send me a replacement radio before I send the other one back. When a brand new radio malfunctions the very first time you turn it on I think this is the least they can do, but anyway well done Microair, they came to the party after all. I agree with Kirk's comment about control towers but unfortunately in our small country we cant go to a lot of places, or easily get fuel, without going into Mandatory Broadcast Zones. Mine is just two weeks old from brand new but the red light keeps coming on indicating that it is transmitting and after the prescribed 45 seconds the light starts flashing to indicate a stuck PTT. Nothing will stop it doing this, not even completely disconnecting the PTT switch. Nothing will work on the radio when it is doing this but after a few minutes it just comes right for no apparent reason and then works perfectly, until the next time. It could be fine all day or it could do it again in ten minutes. The factory says send it back to Australia but that means no flying for a month or more. I downloaded their warranty and it does not appear that they guarantee absolute satisfaction. Here is the wording from their warranty Microair Avionics will, at its sole discretion, repair or replace any components, which fail in normal use. Such repairs or replacement will be made at no charge to the customer for parts or labour. The customer shall be responsible for any transportation costs for return of this product to Microair Pty Ltd or an approved Microair Service Centre. This warranty does not cover failures due to abuse, misuse, accident, unauthorised alteration, or repairs carried out by parties other than Microair Avionics or an approved Microair Avionics Service Centre. This warranty does not cover failures where the product has not been installed or operated, in accordance with the provisions of the User and Installation manual(s). It shall be at Microair Avionics sole discretion to decide if a defect is a result of material or workmanship failure. THIS WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, WHICH MAY VARY FROM STATE TO STATE, AND COUNTRY TO COUNTRY. It appears that they have met their obligations. I expect that they would have serviced and returned your new radio but you demanded they do otherwise. In this case it may be best to use and enjoy your properly functioning radio. ----- Original Message ----- From: Brian Leach To: avid_flyer@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 6:27 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Microair M760 radios Hi everyone, This is the continuing story of my new Microair radio.
