      hi all,
when i was looking at grove gears before i put one on my dakota hawk i took
a few pics of a red kitfox at oshkosh. i believe the plane was from the east
coast, pa. maybe? his e mail address was ''KING'' something i think. anyway,
his belly had a ''trough'' that the gear was in . the gear at the belly was
exposed. it was about flush with the belly. looked very nice. that's how i
      did mine.

That would be John King. He lives in Warrenton VA.

His e-mail is "John King" <kingjohn1@comcast.net>

He used to be quite active on this e-mail list prior to moving to Matronics. He
      now
again is active on another KF Forum that only has the forum interface, no mail
      list.
He is member "Birddog". Here is one of his postings regarding a trip he lead in

bankrupt. When government does it, it sends you the bill. And when
government does it for 40 years, the bill comes in two ways: higher

"It should be your care, therefore, and mine, to elevate the minds of
our children and exalt their courage; to accelerate and animate their
industry and activity; to excite in them an habitual contempt of
meanness, abhorrence of injustice and inhumanity, and an ambition to

Constitution, particularly our Bill of Rights, containing phrases

authority to do anything upon which they can get a majority vote.
We think whether a particular measure is a good idea or bad idea
should determine passage as opposed to whether that measure lies
within the enumerated powers granted Congress by the Constitution.

That was probably John Kings' plane...ain't it a beauty? I've seen
pictures of a similar treatment, where the belly was built up to the
level of the Grove gear with a rib or two, then stopped, then
continued on the other side of the gear, and tapered off about 12-18"
after the gear, to become flush with the belly once again. This
creates a trough for the gear to ride in.

Maybe some of the guys who have done this modification, and who have
pictures, will be kind enough to share with the group? Call it a pay-
back or a pay-forward for help received in the past or help you may
need in the future. Geez, I feel a group hug coming on....

The small loop on the front strut attach point for one of my wings has
been broken off. I do not wish to attempt to replace or repair it, I
would like to make a small strap affair of fairly thick/strong aluminum
and place it under the bolt, using a longer bolt as required.. Advice?

I would use a piece of 4130 if this is the tiedown ring. Even then they
can break off. If you tie down safely you run the rope through that and
over the strut, but still good to have it strong. Larry

You wouldn't even need a loop. Just an appropriately shaped strap of
1/16" stainless steel, maybe an inch wide, with a hole drilled in one
end for the attach point under the strut bolt, and a hole in the
other end for a tie-down hook. If the hole for the hook is 3/8", and
you centered that hole 1/2" in from the end, you would have 5/16" of
material surrounding the hole on the tension end.....lots of room for
wear due to rocking in the wind while tied down. Stainless steel
would not weigh that much more than aluminum, and would wear much
longer. You might not even have to lengthen the attaching
bolt....depends on the amount of threads showing right now.

      Kirk,
Yes they make one but it is for their application and not NSI.
Another Kitfoxer has said he has one and we are talking.
      Thanks,
      Leroy
