Hi Paul,
Why did you dilute the Kreem 50/50 with MEK? The Kreem I have used wanted it full
strength.

Subject: | coolant plumbing/Initial VG tests |
On my model 2, there's a right angle fitting that joins where the coolant hose
exits the underside of the cowling and heads back for the radiator. I've always
used gray high temp PVC to accomplish this but have lingering doubts about
it's tolerance to the higher temps, especially in summer time, and am unable to
come up with any hard data on this. In any case, I'd like to switch to aluminum
or possibly brass fittings for peace of mind. Does anyone know a good source
for these. Local hardware stores just furrow their brow when I look there,
even if it's a plumbing specialty store.
Also, I installed my Stolspeed VG's and have flown since (see thread on tuft testing
of upper wing surface) and the results are interesting. Stall appears to
be down to around 30 mph vs 35 without, and is more abrupt. Prior to VG's, stall
was really just a mush with pitch attitude oscillating up and down maybe
10 degrees or so at about 4000 rpm. Now, there's a little warning 1 or 2 mph
before and a very definite but also controllable break with the nose dropping
to maybe 20 deg pitch down and no tendency to roll. Altitude loss is no more than
100 ft and recovery is immediate.
Pics and vids to follow.

I have a laundry list of projects that involve my KF3 but aside from the new fuel
lines (that will be another post all together) I am planning on starting with
the larger elevator that McB offers. Does anyone have this elevator on a Mod
4 or earlier? I am looking for a little input on whether it makes a vast improvement
or not. Thanks guys.

It seems to me to be very simple. There is no load on landing gear until y
ou touch down. The outside of the tires will hit the ground first. Ok
Clint reverse the tires when you start seeing wear.

Subject: | Re: Flying Again....after Kreem Problem |
Because those who had re-sloshed with tanks in wings recommended it, and after
doing it I agree...without diluting it's thickness would have made it very difficult
to insure contact with all the interior surfaces of the tanks and to get
it drained out without pooling. I didn't have a way or want to devise a way
of manipulating the wings in any extreme manner to accomplish this task. It's
my intention to use non-ethanol fuel in the future anyway, so I probably could
have got by without re-sloshing the kreem, but I figured it would add some insurance
against leaks and who knows, it may become impossible to get ethanol free
fuel of any type at some point in the future....Paul P.

Malcolm,
Probably either toe-in or camber or both. (Camber is when
the tops of the tires are farther apart than the bottoms.) Any camber
will make your tires appear toed in when you're sitting on the tail
wheel. I measured my toe-in by clamping a level 8' aluminum angle to
the brake disk and dropping a plumb bob mark to the ground at two
distances forward. (Say, 1' and 7'.) I did this for both sides and
then measured the athwartships distances between the marks. Do the
math and you get the toe-in. Do this with your plane level and on the
tailwheel.
