Fiberglas tanks and Ethanol .=C2- I first saw what Ethanol does to f iber
glas tanks a few years ago. Sport fishing boat with glass tanks built in 70
's. The Ethanol dissolved the resin from the inside of the tank and sent it
up into the fuel filter and into the engine. It looked like thick dark syr

Have you seen any tanks actually leak or fall apart due to ethanol? I hear
of them but Have not seen any yet.

I think
that the vinyl ester resin is the key as early tanks were poly ester resin.
Ours I think are made from vinyl ester resin.
The point is all the hype about ethanol eating Kitfox tanks has really not proven
to happening. 1970 boats sure but not relevant.
No need to slosh Kreem if there really is not a problem. A poorly sloshed tank
can cause more probelms than without.l

Okay, here is the $64k question:
Is there a way, to visually (or otherwise) test weather your tanks are Polyester
or vinylester resin?

Ask John. Its all about the build date.
Internal coatings with any glass tanks could be still required to
seal the pin holes. Test your tanks for pinholes before installation.

Subject: | Corrosion Protection for Flaperons? |
I have removed my flaperons for corrosion removal and painting. I am concerned
about possible corrosion inside. After stripping, priming and painting I noted
one of the end caps was slightly loose. I removed it so I could epoxy it back
into position. Then I realized there is no type of corrosion protection inside
the flaperons. :(
My flaperons have always held water from rain and washing and I am careful to keep
it as dry as possible. I am planning to drill a few more holes for better
draining.
Here is my main concern What can I use to pour into the various sections of the
flaperons to coat the aluminum inside? I have considered Linseed Oil. However,
Im really not sure what is best. Linseed Oil wont hurt my new paint, it is
easily available and Im sure would create a dripping mess for a while (I can
live with thatfor a while)!
Suggestions?

"Corrosion -X or T-9"
T-9 was made for Boeing for corrosion. When I manufactured Dive compressors we
used either one. Both work very well even against salt water. T-9 will leave a
longer lasting film to help block out all moisture.

Take care that what ever product you use does not break down the foam ribs in the
flaperon.
