Subject: | Droopy wing tips. |
After months of staring at and test fitting those hideous droopy wing
tips, I finally broke down and ordered a new set of standard tips for my
KF. I am offering the old ones for sale with no fixed price. No idea how
much they are worth.

George,
This is late as I have been out of town. I had some coolant leaking from my
912 UL after about 300 hours and the guys at Rotax - I think CPS told me to
put a proportional shot of bars leak in it and that was it.

There is a small vent hole in the rear casting housing that bolts to the
motor behind water pump that is seeping a little coolant. This motor has sat
around for a while. Could someone describe what I'm in for and how and what
I need to replace the seal. I believe by looking at the parts book that it
is called a rotary seal part number 850-945.

I'm down for annual and I'm changing out my tubing for the sight gauges
and vent lines. I have always used Tygon tubing (1/4"ID) and although
it stays flexible, the best I can get from it is 2 years before it
yellows so badly that it is no longer easy to see the fuel levels.
Can anyone recommend a tubing for this purpose that can stand up to auto
gas and last a little longer than 2 years, or is this the best I'm going
to get considering the circumstances?
Any input appreciated.

Hmm. As it happens, one my droop tips suffered some damage recently when one tie
down came undone in high winds. One wing lifted and crunched the end of the
opposite wing tip. I see that you have a model IV 1050. Mine is a 1200.. Do they
have the same tips?

I talked to 5 different tubing Mfg's almost 2 years ago and they all said the
die in the auto fuel would turn their tubing brown over time.

I'd considered that, but I didn't think that the fuel level would be
very visible. Is that what you use?

Model IV 1050 & 1200 use the same ribs, so the tips should be the same.

I've used the blue tubing for sight gauges and header tank vent line
over the past 4 years. It is easy to see in the right light. Just be
sure to have a white back ground. I painted the inboard side of the
tanks white and pasted a calibrated scale printed on clear sticky back
to clear plexiglas that is mounted to the fuselage butt rib. Simple,
cheap, looks fine and works great!
