Deke,
I just replaced my fuel gauge tubing two days ago with a tubing that has a
liner in it. Williams Aircraft sells the stuff and that is what he uses on
his fuel sight gauge kit. I tried to fit the tubing on the barbed fittings
last year but it waded up the lining so I used the Tygon tubing instead. It
turned brown in a year. I don't want to use the blue tubing as it would be
too difficult to see the fuel quantity.
Anyway, this time, I bought a quantity of this liner tubing figuring I
would go through several pieces before I got it on. I then polished the barb
fittings, applied some Dry Slide lubricant and, slid the tubing on without
damaging the liner. This tubing is supposed to be for caustic chemicals,etc so
hopefully gas won't turn hurt it. I will find out what kind of tubing it is
today as I have a little of it left. I bought it on line. I also replaced
the brass wire that is included with the kits. That was all tarnished up when
I removed it. I have since replaced it with a stainless rod to hold the
shape of the tube.Anyway,I hope this works better as, like you, I am tired of
replacing it all the time.
I am also going thru a lot of work on my plane as part of my "annual.' I
have replaced all the 17 mm water hoses and made a tool yesterday to pull the
gearbox in order to reshim it. I only have 225 hrs on the engine but it is
15 years old and the box is starting to make a little noise and is
intermittently hanging up at about 1200 rpm on start as well as this running
backwards business on shutdown sometimes. New Belleville (sp) washers and assorted
parts are pretty sporty!

r wheels, consider this.- What I'm talking about is the gear leg that use
s bungee cords and not the grove gear.- With bungee cords, the gear is to
e in to keep the bungee cords from extending and wheels spreading outward d
uring taxi and take-off.- Naturally, if the wheels were toe out, then the
gears would want to spread out and the bungee cords would stretch.- The
perfect scenario would be to have a straight track, but even with that, I t
hink you may be looking for a potential problem.- You need to decide if r
eplacement of the tires and expense outweighs the possibility of bungee cor

Are there any caveats to look out for when moving wingtips from one airplane to
another. I'm not the builder of my Kifox so I'm not sure what to look out for.
For instance, are the mounting holes likely to line up or are they drilled in
place and thus "custom fit" to each airplane? Also, mine have strobe lights
mounted. Do all wingtips have strobe lights? Are they likely to be the same location?

I use the blue tubing with a white background and a red tube
from a Chem-tool spray can inside. I can see the fuel level pretty
well in daylight, though not as well, I'm sure, as new clear tubing.
Next time I'll use stainless rod inside. My tube has not discolored,
but I use 100LL exclusively. It has oxidized on the outside over the
last four years which makes it a little harder to see through. I'll
probably replace it when I re-engine this year.

Those wing tips were never made for the Model IV and later planes. My new
Model IV came with tips from a model 3 with under cambered wings.

Whatever the stuff is that John McBean sells with his fuel level view
thing-a-ma-jig is good stuff. I've had mine on since the first of
2006 or before, and I've put (855 hrs x ~4 GPH=3420) 3420 gallons of
100LL through my tanks, and I can still see the fuel level. Some
things aren't worth being a pioneer over...John has done the legwork,
buy Kitfox.

use it in plumbing quite often for things like attaching thermo discs to
metal objects like water heaters etc.

I finished the retro fit of an oil injection for my Kitfox a while back and finally
we have good weather to test it out. Yesterday I went up and burned three
gallons of gas mixed 100:1 to make sure it was working. Today burned my first
tank of straight gas. It appears to be using about 60 or 70:1. maybe it's
just me but the little 503 seems to run smoother with the injection. I'm happy
not to be premixing fuel any more!
Attached are some pictures from the test flight. I had another mission to check
out a route to take snowmobiling tomorrow.

I have seen all kinds of mountings of wing tips.
I've also seen many without strobes or any other types of lights.
Not a big deal to re mount or relocate holes or wiring but nice to have the
schematic in hand if you need to extend the wires.
There is no builders blueprint or pattern to my knowledge for mounting the
wingtips though.

Not sure about caveats, they came in two parts and had to be glued together.
Mine go on the Model IV ribs fine as that is what they came from. They have
the mounts for strobes, not sure I'll put those on the plane again.

Those wing tips were never made for the Model IV and later planes. My new
Model IV came with tips from a model 3 with under cambered wings.

Reading off the tube: "Silicone-Base Heat Sink Compound 0.23 Oz,
Heat conductive-helps transfer heat from component to heat sink or
chassis." part #276-1372A
This is the stuff that Polyfiber calls for (or similar) to calibrate
your iron before using it to shrink the fabric. It just conducts
heat, plain and simple. Of course, if Rotax finds out you used the
wrong stuff, phone calls to lawyers will follow. : )

What I ment was=2C the droop tips were for the model I=2C II=2C and III's.
Speedster were for 4's and later with the laminar flow wings.

what is the gain or loss on each kind of tip ? If any ?
I think aesthetics but I would not say that he droop is draggy at all

Dave,
Some of the guys we fly with have the droop tips and others do not - all
Model IVs and I think you are right - performance difference is not enough
to measure.
