I agree with Tom, I would debur the holes, (Burs and sharp edges are
starters for cracks) put in a little linseed Oil and plug with some form of
filler, Hysol, JB Weld, etc. As Tom states at that point you can sand and
paint, and as an added measure of protection make it part of your annual
Inspection too closely inspect the area for signs of cracks.
