(ala: a conventional aircraft) There must have been a change in the Rotax prop flange somewhere along the line because every hole(except the larger outer) is threaded. I have a mid 90's engine. When I tried the Kiev prop I had to remove the prop bushings as the Kiev hub fastened to the inner ring of holes on the prop flange. This inner ring of holes on the prop flange was also threaded and I was able to torque the bolts and used lock nuts on the back to give more thread area. I drilled the heads of the bolts and used safety wire there.(probably overkill) I don't really like that method of fastening the hub to the inner ring of holes but that's the only way to do it..The Warp system seems to be more stable with the bushings, wider hub support, etc I ended up going back to the Warp as I had the wrong Kiev prop (was for 100hp) and it didn't perform as well at cruise. I have ordered the proper shorter blade Kiev and will give that one a shot cause I sure like it. It is one smooth prop. What are bets you will find some six or eight legged varmint inside the tube. No N2? Then try filtered shop air. If that doesn't work check for a leak somewhere in the pitot line again a little shop air will make finding the leak easy. Took it up for first flight and the ASI reads 40 mph too low. This is the second time it's failed. First one was replaced last year and had only 150 hrs on it. New one has less than 25. Wonder if the extreme cold here in Sioux Falls has anything to do with it? Plane is hangared. That is amateur mechanics are terrified to cut a piece of lock wire to check a torque for regular scheduled maintenance. I think they are wrong but do what I'm told by the Mfgr. No problem with the FAA inspection and Nyloc nuts. There was no comment made so I can't really say the nuts were noticed. The spinner was off for the inspection though. The AP I had do the condition inspection asked about them. I commented that's what the mfg specified. They are selling single ring SPI pistons and they are junk. Well the piston is OK but the rings are not. We had 2 different engines we put them in and I had an engine out due to collapsed rings and the other engine we caught on take off and aborted as it would not develop full RPM after only about 5 hrs run time. That engine was like a turbine as you could turn the prop with one finger and barely feel the compression as you spun it over. That being said, I have used the after market Ebay gaskets in 4 engines and have not had any issues with the gaskets or seals! -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry aka SNAKE Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 (147 hrs and counting on the rebuild) IVO IFA Full Lotus 1450 #1 snake oil salesman since 1-22-2009 I would rather die trying to live, than to live trying not to die.... Other prop Mfg's have different specs. You can check them every annual. Replacing them? Well some say if you take it off replace it. Some say if you take it off 2-3 times and others say if you can unscrew them by hand. Kind of depends who you want to listen to. For me it depends on what a nut is holding in place and how critical it is. Having done this for many years I would say if you take it off a couple of times then toss it and put a new one on. Others here may tell you use it once then toss it. Once on though and never have removed it, then there is no reason to change it, unless something odd happens. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
