These have sat out in the weather for a period of time. thanks I'm just thinking out loud on this so take it for what it's worth. The flaperon skin is epoxied to the foam ribs. There are a lot of ribs as they are spaced about four inches apart. The top and bottom of the trailing edges of the skin are epoxied together at the factory and riveted by the builder. You can drill the rivets out and pop the trailing edge open and see if it has delaminated from the ribs. It should be fairly easy to pop the trailing edges apart. Mine were starting to pop apart on their own before I riveted them when they were new. You may be able to pry it open enough to peek inside at the ribs too. Now if you see that some of the ribs need replacing you would most likely need to figure out a way to repair them in place as replacing them would require taking the flaperon apart and starting from scratch with it...I think. You can tell a lot about the condition by just squeezing the skin with your fingers along each. You can see and feel where they are fairly easily.     Subject: 912 installation manuals
    We are installing a never-run 912 UL that was made in 1997. At the time (1997), Rotax published an installation manual that had values for torques, probe placement etc. Last year ( 2009), Rotax published a new installation manual covering all 912s, including the UL, that showed different values than in the older install manual. Specifically: 1. The old manual said exhaust flange nut torque 90-170 inch pounds, the new manual says 177 inch pounds? Which one to use? 2. The old manual said EGT probe placement is 70 mm from the exhaust flange, the new manual says 100mm. Which one to use? Should we go with the latest values, or the values in the manual published at the time the engine was made? Hope someone can help, thanks, Clem & Chris Oklahoma KFIV-912

    Subject: Running a stored engine
    Has anyone put a 912 into service that was in storage for years before installation? I'd like to hear what you did to prepare it for running and if you had any problems with it. Our 912 UL has been waiting for about 10 years to be installed. It looks good, but we need to know if there are things we need to do before running it. Any ideas would be really appreciated.
