Jack,
You will have to buy a new pump. They come with or without the hoses. As
you are going to have to buy a new pump anyway check out the new "billet pump"
It is a far better quality pump made for the 912/914. I saw them at
Sun-n-Fun. There is no doubt that this is the pump I will get when mine craps out
!
It is made in the USA,smaller than the original pump. It has no
diaphragm, valves, rocker arm,or gaskets. It is made of hardcoated 6061-T6 aluminimun
with stainless steel internal parts. It only flows as much fuel as the engine
requires. The 912 pump is $368.00 and the 914 $396.00 If interested the
outfit is: Corbi Air INC, Salem ,Ohio 877-267-2424.

KFer's, What is the best way to test the ASI system? Mine registered
stall at 27 and cruise at 47. I tried rolling up surgical tube on the
pitot tube to get a reading to no avail. Is there a way to test the ASI
seperately?

Pat, I've never used Dow 730 on anything with worn threads. It's not a structural
material, so it wouldn't add strength. I suppose it would depend on how worn
the threads are. If the fitting doesn't stay put on its own without some kind
of goop, I might recommend drilling and tapping to the next larger size. Another
possibility is to glue on a fiberglass or aluminum doubler plate drilled
and tapped for your fitting. I'd use fiberglass resin for the fiberglass doubler.
However, if you decided on an aluminum doubler plate, I'd use 3M structural
adhesive. It so happens I've used this structural adhesive to attach aluminum
fuel-gauge bosses to fiberglass tanks and it's worked well. Either way, I don't
see any reason a doubler plate wouldn't work.

Are there any warning symptoms that the pump is about to fail?

Please stay on the low side with regard to fuel pressure. There has been an
bad accident here (just after take-off) because of a fuel pump with too high
pressure. This may block the floaters in the carburettors. I have flown
close to 500h without auxiliary pump.

Hi Guys,
I talked to Rotax today and you early engine owners are absolutely right that back
in the 90's the 912 engine did not have that cover. They did however say that
you need one on there now. The cover is $75.

Mike, Thanks for the info. I guess the next size bigger would be the best
way. The threads stilll hold and are tight. I used Permatex non hardening.
Filled the tank today and no leaks. guess I'm OK. Just makes you wonder when
the stuff is still barely tacky after a day to set up.

Vic, Thanks. I am printing out the manometer info page. I found there was a
piece of surgical tubing that connected the pitot to the black plastic tube
in the wing that rotted out causing a major leak. It was a bear to replace
even with my small hands, but at least there was an access plate at that
point. I will now see how accurate the ASI readings are. I did do the rollup
of a surgical tube on the pitot tube that held pressure on the ASI.

ASI problems=3B
I had simular problems on my first flight in my mod 3. Mud Dobers got into
the pitot tube of which I thought I had removed all the dibris only to hav
e some of the loose sand which they use flow into the asi and then plug the
screne at the exit port of the indicator. I removed the indicator and all
tubing conectors on the back side and was able to see the pluged screan. Ho
lding the unit with the ports down I carefully brushed the screan with a so
ft fine wire probe and watched the dirt fall out. This worked for me and ha
s been fine ever since. Your indicator may be different and I don' know why
there is a screan at the exit port only except for possibly some backpress
ure to make it work right. I hope this will help you out too.
