When this happens evaporating fuel may actually push gas to the other tank and cause it to overflow. It's a good part of a pre-flight walk around to check the fuel vents at the same time you check the caps are properly locked. Depending on where your filler cap is in the wing chord it is more than possible for gas to be siphoned out of both tanks if one cap comes off either before or in flight. Step on the left rudder, fuel will transfer to the left tank. And vise versa. If the level of one tank is higher than the other it is probably just because the wings are not level. Probably due to the ground it is sitting on is not level. Have you found the Kitfox aircraft web site and looked at the service bulletins and service letters yet? http://www.kitfoxaircraft.com/ Here's a direct link to a service letter that explains a proper fuel system. http://www.kitfoxaircraft.com/support/service_letters/sl45.htm -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=299836#299836 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:57:32 AM PST US From: Catz631@aol.com Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: prop hub questoin Dick I am a little confused. I thought that is a crush plate, only for the front of all wood props. Never seen it used as a back plate. Dwight Purdy Model ll 503 Dwight, I too was a little confused about this when I bought a larger spinner to replace my small 7inch aluminum spinner. I called Warp and they told me that yes indeed that plate needs to be on top of the spinner backplate. My new spinner was fiberglass so I can understand why the aluminum plate needs to be on there (the spinner instructions also said to use it) I guess it acts like a giant "fender washer' holding everything in place. Warp did say to use it on an aluminum one also (as mine had when I bought the aircraft) Dick Dewight , Let me clarify this a bit. The back plate of my spinner goes on the front of the prop after the prop is mounted to the engine prop flange, then the flat crush plate, then the bolts are slid in place, saftied, spinner then attached. Some spinner back plates go behind the prop. It fired on the first revolution however after 30 seconds or so I noticed smoke and shut down. Inspection revealed gas pouring out of both carbs. I opened both float chambers but did not see anything obviously wrong. I'm new to bing carbs so, before I start searching on the net or manuals can anyone give me some "quick hits" to cure. BTW, the engine ran much smoother than I thought it would on first start!!!!
