Thanks Jim, right on both points. I was running a bit rich for break. I tightened the exhaust manifold bolts. They were surprisingly loose. I degreased the engine and ran it up for 1/2 hour at 5000 rpm. No leak. Ed, The step needs to be 4" to 6" (and some float manufactures even call for 8") behind the most rearward CG you will be flying at. I use the rear CG limit of the aircraft so I will be covered no matter what. If you set it under the empty CG you will find yourself having a hard time getting it on step at gross weight or if you have something loaded in the baggage area. Been there, done that and have a couple tee shirts.. -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry aka SNAKE Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 (147 hrs and counting on the rebuild) IVO IFA Full Lotus 1450 #1 snake oil salesman since 1-22-2009 I would rather die trying to live, than to live trying not to die.... I never bothered with that. I tried it on my old prop and found that the washers will eat away at the threads on the shaft and you wont be able to get full pitch range. I just set mine up with a teflon washer on each side so it wont bottom out and stick. I set the max RPM on the ground runup then bump it here and there in the air or on roll out to keep the RPM and EGTS right where I want them. I too thank you for that POH. I pick up my kit August 13 and will begin work. This gives me some insight into speeds.
