    Hi all, need help please!! I'm looking for the bolt size that attach the wing strut to the fuselage and the bolt size for the tailwheel (bolt that attach wheel assembly to the spring) Is it in the construction book? Thanks! Richard

    >From the Classic 4 Assembly Manual, What Model Kit fox is yours. I don't know if different models may use different bolts or not. Parts List, Classic 4 Wing Kit Lift Strut to fuselage--Bolt--AN6-11 Nut--AN310-6 Washers--AN960-616 and AN969-616L Pins--AN380-3-3 The tail wheel to spring bolt is an AN7 and the length depends on what tail wheel and how many spring leaves it goes through. Mine is a Maule tail wheel and the bolt goes through one spring leaf. That bolt is an AN7-11.     Richard, The Model IV manual calls for a AN6-11 bolt at the bottom of the lift strut and a AN5-20 for the tail wheel spring to fuselage attachment. The length will vary depending on the number of tail spring leafs. The one mentioned is for two leafs.     Subject: water temps revisited

    I took the advise of the Kitfox group and purchased the marine thermostat from NAPA made by sierra 18-3670. It is a 160 degree, and looks identical to the Kitfox one. $25 bucks beats what Rotax wants for one. There does seem to be on small difference and I want to know if it makes a difference. The original t-stat has 2 very small ovals that are spaced close together and they each are the size of about 1/32". They reside right at the inner edge of the rubber gasket ring and it seems they will allow a small amount of water to bypass when the t-stat is closed. The new t-stat does not have these. Us guys have got to be obviously anal about these issues as landing safely is paramount. Am I overly concerned about this?     I'm all in favour of experimenting when it's done safely. What you have going for you is the fact that boaters have been doing this for years and you are doing your own experimentation in little steps. I don't think you will have any problems. Other than the fact you will be throwing away 10% of your fuel...maybe. Speaking about disposing of the ethanol water mix. If you are going to sell it as fuel you will need to remove the water from it. This is done by distilling. I think to 180F... Been a long time since I studied that in high school. I do remember there is a big break where the ethanol stops running from the still before distilled water starts to run. If you have a candy thermometer in your mash ( the stuff your're distiooing you will see at a specific point the alcohol will stop flowing and then somewhere just below 212F you will see water flow. Just thinking out loud here but if you have one of those flex fuel vehicles which are specifically tuned to run E 85 then you can always put your distilled hooch in the new bucket of bolts. Sorry to say they put something into the ethanol so you can't distill it to make some fine bourbon or the like.     True 10% Ethanol won't hurt the 912 (in the TBO). However there are other considerations to take into mind; the material the tanks and lines are made of are a couple. There are others that I don't want to get into here. Sorry guys but I think booze should be kept at the bar and used only after there is weight on wheels.... or floats as the case may be. I know many of us have to, or feel they have to fly on ethanol lace fuel. If you are one of those people then try to do so as safely as possible. Never leave fuel in your plane for extended periods of time. After a flight drain the fuel into your car so you will always have the freshest fuel available in your plane. Keep a look out for fuel discolouration. Always keep up on you emergency procedures ( that should be done anyway).     Never mind the boat wake... My dad hit his own wake doing a 360 takeoff in a VJ-22 Sportsman in a harbour. The smell was with him for over 2000 miles.
