Subject: | Re: Need help with EGT problem! |
I experienced the exact same problem last winter when the temps started getting
cooler. I also had the GSC prop and I never wanted to get ino trying to adjust
it. I purchased a 72" IVO, I think medium, 3 blade and set it up for two blade
with a spare. Not only did that solve my EGT problem but it was the single
greatest all around mod I can imagine doing to that plane. Take off is still
about 150' solo but with a little time in ground effect to get speed up and
I can climb with the VSI pegged over 1000 fpm past pattern altitude. Cruise
went up about 15 mph according to the ASI which is a little inaccurate. My only
gripe is that now the plane is too fast in that the controls are a little heavier
in roll.
I never would have believed it no matter how many times I was told before hand,
but you will not regret replacing the 68" GSC! You will not believe how much
of a difference the prop makes.

Subject: | Re: Flying with the doors off |
I almost never fly with doors on. There is always more clothes to put on. I only
put them on to give rides to the less adventurous. I also fly doorless professionally
so I am quite used to the added work of keeping everything where
it belongs and I sit on my map if I need one for the flight. I have a cover behind
the seats but have flown doors off without it with no issues although I
did not do slips on that flight. I have slipped the hell out of the thing with
no doors also with no issues, always fun to slip towards a passenger if they
take jokes well. I am sure that it affects cruise flight but take offs seem
pretty unaffected as my 150' solo and 250' dual short field takeoffs seem the
same.
WOW this is making me miss my plane right now [Crying or Very sad]

Subject: | WANTED: Grove Gear, Smooth Cowl, Ideas, mostly Ideas |
I am just trying to get my ear to the ground for some parts if anyone has heard
of any available. I have to ground the Fox when I get home so I can replace
the tanks and I figure I might as well go over the whole plane and tweak a few
things.
Specifically I am looking for a smooth cowl. As I understand this was not available
for the 3 but a 4 will work with a little finesse. I would also love to
get my hands on some Grove gear in the event that anyone is getting rid of some
for a little (a lot) less then the store price.
I am also trying to figure out any other fun to do mods. On the list are VGs,
and maybe some streamlining. Any other ideas? I am open to suggestions and still
have several months to contemplate this stuff.
I am just hoping when I get home I don't just do the bare minimum to get 'er flying
just to get up ASAP, you know the urge. . .

Hi Gang,
I am trying to locate a guy who has a Classic IV with a Jabiru 3300 engine. I
want to pick his brain because I intend to put one in mine. I've heard he might
live in either CT or PA. Thanks!

You should consider the 2200 jabiru, for its more power than you need and
you will burn about 2 1/2 gallons.
