Subject: Kitfox-List: coolant leak 582 My newly serviced 582 has a coolant leak and I'm looking for input. The leak comes out right at the drain port for the water pump, but does not appear to come through the drain. I'm having a hard time to locate it exactly. It's a fairly large leak and should be easier to pin down but the number of surfaces coming together at this point is hampering my ability to see clearly. In this image you are looking at a screen capture of the top case, there is no corresponding hole in the bottom case. I have checked the crankcases and the oil from the cross-shaft compartment and found no coolant. I'm hoping the water pump cover is leaking but I'm curious about the hole indicated, which also comes out in the same area. Is this hole connected in any way to the water jacket? Is the any source of coolant here except the cover leaking on the water pump? Any experiance you can share will be helpful as I am not keen to split the case looking for this leak. ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 03:05:19 PM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: rotax 582 prop torque? I have the standard Douglas wheel with golf cart tire. Various checklists for the annual condition inspection include packing the wheel bearings, but to do so on the inner bearing requires probably destroying the inner seal. I have purchased these before from the McBeans, but dont seem to be connecting with them. -------- Jeff Dill Model 2 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=315289#315289 ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 06:09:45 PM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: coolant leak 582 From: "akflyerbob" This should be a vent between the outer ceramic seal and the enter seal. If it is leaking from there then the ceramic outer seal is leaking. This space is also provided to vent heat from between the seals. -------- Bob Wolfe..Soldotna, Alaska KF Mod I and III Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=315297#315297 ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 07:46:32 PM PST US From: "Lowell Fitt" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Wheel bearing seals Jeff, I can't believe I found it, but I was sure that the last time I got new seals I got them locally. I found one in it's original box. It is a Carquest 471633.
