Hello fellow Kitfox builders and fliers.....I am in the process of cowling up a
kitfox 5 with an 0-200 cont and was wondering if anyone could offer some
suggestions for the cowl opening size needed at the bottom for the exiting
cooling air....I have the addendum of the o-200 conversion but they do not seem
to offer much...would like real world feedback...this would be the sleek (non
bump) cowling...should be running before the end of the year and flying by
spring if all goes well....Gary

Just wanted you guys to know that the teamkitfox forum is going sour.
Steve Kellander is the admin and is deleting every post he doesn't like and
banning
members that oppose, like me.
I wrote in a comment:
This website is actively optimized for streamlined discussions........
This is what he sent me as a private message:

.....response slightly edited for obvious reasons
Anyway that kind of behavior can't be good for their sponsors.

Why would you post something like that here? Members of this list
who also follow TeamKitfox will already be aware of what goes on
there and those that don't won't care.

Act like a civilized human being and treat others with respect (even
when you disagree with them) and everything will be fine.

Well. . .
While it IS true that Steve's a friend of both Kitfox List moderators; and
it IS true that impolite behavior here can get a contributor banned; and
it IS true that at least I have been affectionately known, in the past,
by the moniker "List Nazi"; and
it IS true that I once removed said person who referred to me as the
"List Nazi";
we here on the Matronics list will never condemn anyone for polite,
Kitfox related discussion. Ever. You have my word.

The issue was 3 blade ultralight and 3:1 gears. Not a blanket "C" box ban, however,
I have been running the 3:1 gears and ultralight 72" 3 blade for over 100
hrs an have not had any blade movement. While IVO cautions against the use
of the 3 blade and 3:1, they tell you to use a small piece of the SS tape and
put it across the root opening between the blades. If the tape cracks, you have
blade movement and that is bad JUJU. I have not had a single tape crack.
I was very anal about checking the bolt Tq for about the first 50 hrs, but after
the initial run, and 2 subsequent tightenings, I have never had the blades
loosen up on me.

Subject: | Re: 8mm vs AN5 prop bolts |
Boy, you'd think they would too. I was watching mine today from the outside while
my son started it. For a couple of seconds after the engine catches and the
rpm is climbing to a smooth idle, the blades are whipping all over the place.
I'd guess conservatively that the tips oscillate in kind of a 'Dutch roll'
motion up to 4 inches in both the longitudinal and axial planes. Yet, after
3 hours with the new prop now and with no loosening of the bolts after torquing
them on installation and once again after a ground runup, the above mentioned
tapes that act as indicators of inappropriate blade root movement are fine.
I'd guess the issue here has more to do with the flexibility of the carbon fiber
blades. They're just as 'strong' by whatever definition you'd like to apply
as the wooden blades they replaced, but have different dynamic qualities. Did
my first short cross country with the new prop today. Smooth as glass and very
enjoyable.
Chris
