Guys,
Great to hear that the pilot was not to seriously injured. I will be very
interested in hearing what the cause of the incident was if they are ever
able to determine it. I have heard of a somewhat similar incident in which
the pilot of a Kitffox was not able to roll ailerons to one side after
takeoff (He said he had full control movement before takeoff) and decided to
make an off field landing. He said they were unable to determine what caused
the restricted controls condition during the post incident investigation.

This is a bit basic but since it startled me in during an unusually gust
departure, I thought I'd mention it.
The flaperons (early model IV) are dramatically less effective in roll
control when in full flap mode. Most folks learn this early on and then I
bet primarily use flaps just for minor trim adjustments
I almost never use my flap lever except for minor in flight trim
adjustments. I'm the only person who flies my plane And the plane is
almost always hangered when not flying. So I (WRONGLY) expect the flaps to
be set where I leave them.
However the plane was out one night when a front with strong winds came
thru. The winds pushed the flaps into the full down position which I am
embarassed to say I did not notice.
The next morning when I went for a flight in very gusty post frontal
passage conditions the plane required so much stick input, as I broke
ground that I thought something was badly wrong. For an instant I was
about to abort the take-off before the brain kicked in and I reached down
to adjust the flap handle.
Nothing was broken except my preflight technique. The friction on the flap
handle is tighter now to help prevent movement when tied down and I'm a
bit more attentive during prefilght.

If you are talking about gap seal material that is plastic, heavy duty
and clear you can buy it from Tognar . Tognar is a downhill ski tool and
supply company. The material is sold as snowboard top protective plastic
and comes in 14" widths, if I remember correctly. It works super as an
elevator gap seal and is inexpensive.

I'm right in the middle of changing out all my fuel lines, getting rid of the original
factory stuff. Is it over kill or a good idea to have fuel filters from
the wing tanks to just before the header tank and one filter just before the
carb inlet. Opinions and thoughts on this appreciated.

My opinion and its only one man's opinion:
I do not like the idea of a filter between the wing and header tanks. The only
flow there is via gravity. A small amount of water contamination could block the
flow through these filters. Personally, I only like a filter where a pump provides
positive flow through it.

On my model 2 -I put glass filter-from wing tank-before the header ta
nk, I like to see the flow of fuel . Before I didn't know when coming in fo
r landing or any descents the fuel stops coming out of the wing . also I ca
n see how much fuel I'm burning by the rate that is flowing in the glass fi
lter. I have had it there for over 75 hour with no problems. I put one ther
e at head level and one just out of the header tank. I did take out the fil
ter in the tank when I sealed with KBS tank sealer -

That is exactly what I have on my plane right now, and ever since I
first built it....Purolator see-through glass filters between both
tanks (3/8" lines) and header tank, and another one before the fuel
flow meter/TBI inlet. In fact, I have added front ports to my wing
tanks, and I also use the same filters in those down-lines. So a
total of 5 filters in the system...maybe overkill, but nothing gets
into the TBI but fuel....oops, I forgot that the TBI also has what
they call a "last chance filter" which is inside the body of the
TBI...call it 6 filters. : )

Personally I run big 3/8" lines with no filters down to the header tank.
(I do have the finger strainers in the tank, though.) I then have one
big race-car filter just outside the header tank on the way to the fuel
pump. The idea is to get all the crud down to the header tank so I can
sump it. If I'm getting floaties then I'll see them when I sump the
header, and the filter will stop them. (It's a huge filter, probably
12si of area so it should take a long time to clog.) I've personally
experienced too many flow-limitation problems with the small glass
filters typically seen between the tank and the header.

I currently have a clear filter on each down line and one just before the carb.
I have been experiencing unequal flow especially from the left tank it seems
to draw down much faster than the right take. I think it may have something to
do with filters the filters I'm using.
I'm changing the tank hose to header to 3/8 I.D, I have 5/16 aluminum tube to the
firewall. Then I will install either 5/16 or 1/4 I.D line from the firewall
to the carb. The carb inlet is 1/4" I think.

Dan,
I see that there are lots of opinions on this one. I have one as well. I
used the auto fuel lines from the wing tanks to the header tanks, and like a
couple of guys I liked to see the fuel running to the header tank so used
the glass filters just above the seat back. I am about to run the fuel
lines on my new project and will do the same. On one trip down the Sierras
to home, I was in a fairly steep descent for a bit over half an hour and
wanted to see the fuel as the rearward ports on the wing tank started
sucking air. It did and I was able to see it and liked to be able to see
it.

To each his own=2C but I will never have the filters between the wing tank
s and header tank. My only off field landing to date has been because of a
plugged filter between the wing tank and header. That was after about 300
hrs of flying 9 different 2 stroke engined ultralights. My thinking is l
et the header tank catch whatever gets past the finger strainers=2C it is a
ctually a large gascolator and so that's what it's made to do. It doesn't
take much to slow up the flow in a gravity feed situation and that is what
you have between the wings and header tank. I now have a filter after the
header tank and have not had similar problems in the last 300+ hrs. Take
care=2C

7) !! All incoming enclosures will be scanned for viruses prior to posting
to the List. This is done in real time and will not slow down
the process of posting the message !!
Here are some rules for posting enclosures. Failure to abide by these rules
could result in the removal of a subscriber's email address from the Lists.
1) Pay attention to what you are posting!! Make sure that the files
you are enclosing aren't HUGE (greater that 1MB). Remember that there
are still people checking they're email via dial up modem. If you post
30MB worth of pictures, you are placing an unnecessary burden on these
folks and the rest of us, for that matter.
2) SCALE YOUR PICTURES DOWN!!! I don't want to see huge 3000 x 2000
pictures getting posted that are 3 or 4MB each. This is just
unacceptable. Use a program such as Photoshop to scale the picture
down to something on the order of 800 x 600 and try to keep the
file size to less-than 200KB, preferably much less.
Microsoft has a really awesome utility available for free that allows
you to Right-Click on a picture in Explorer and automatically
scale it down and resave it. This is a great utility - get it, use it!

3) !! This would seem to go without saying, but I'll say it anyway. Do not
post anything that would be considered offensive by your grandmother.
And you know what I'm saying; I don't want to see anything even
questionable. !!
4) REMEMBER THIS: If you post a 1MB enclosure to a List with 1000 members
subscribed, your 1MB enclosure must be resent 1000 times amounting
to 1MB X 1000 = 1 Gigabyte of network traffic!! BE CAREFUL and
BE COURTEOUS!

for long time viewing and availability.

Each day, starting at 12 midnight PST US, a new 'digest' will be started.
This digest will contain the same information that is currently appended
to the archive file. It has all of the headers except for the "From:"
and "Subject:" lines removed, and includes a message separator consisting
of a line of underscores.
Each day at 23:55 PST US, the day's messages as described above will be
combined and sent as a single message to everyone on the digest email list.
To subscribe to the digest list, use the same subscription web form
described above, and just select the Digest version of the List.

Note that you *can* be subscribed to both the realtime and digest versions
of the List at the same time. This is perfectly acceptable.
Now some caveats:
* Messages sent to "kitfox-list-digest" will be forwarded to the standard

will receive the realtime postings as well as the digest at the end of

The purpose of the Kitfox-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.

that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and
