This has been a concern of mine too. I went down to my local Home Depot and purchased
pipe insulation for tube padding. Works just fine.

912 is a fabulous engine.... Im lucky to have flown about 1,000 hours
behind one... but power to weight of the 582 is ... in my opinion the
perfect engine for the KF 2 3 :-)
enjoy

Dave, Most certain. I have flown it about 20 hours or so. I am an old 2
stroke dirtbike racer and am very comfortable with 2 stroke engines. Bought
the engine used FWF with a C box with 100 hours on everything. It was
pulled from a kitfox for a larger engine install. The engine had sat for a year
before I bought it, and another year and a half before I installed it and
fired it up. I have a Warp Drive ground adjustable prop that came with the
engine. It is rated at 65 HP. Don't forget this thread started with
questions about a 100 HP engine.

Has anyone had experience with the Rotax 670 engine? Rotax Rick sells them
on Barnstormers. From his ads he appears to be experienced in providing
rebuilt Rotax engines. I thought the 670, if setup properly, might be the way
to go for added power. My limited experience with my 582 leads me to
recommend Rotax as a very reliable 65 HP engine. Remember this thread's question
was for powering a mod 5 with 100 HP.

Hello all
Here is a question. What is the opinion of a Hirth F30 110 hp. in a model
5TD? I have an NSI 140T with CAP prop. Do not like it. Throw ideas,
thoughts or experience to me.
Thanks

Oh yes. I covered the tubes to the side and rear with foam tube
insulation. I've used them many a time, as I fly in any turbulence. The
hard one to protect is the perfectly vertical -1 g bump that raps your
headset band smartly into the skylight. I once saw a Kitfox skylight hit
so hard this way it popped the fasteners along one side and back edge.
I'm getting shorter with age though so maybe this won't be a problem in
the future. ;-)

I've got my 582 out for overhaul and will be replacing the engine mounts wh
en it goes back in. Anybody got some-unused ones lying about they'd like
to part with? John McB, if you're out there, have you got some of those in
-the event-the Kitfox community doesn't?
-
Also, wasn't there an upgrade from the plate-type mount used in the earlier
582 applications?

Dave, I also thought the 582 was light enough to make it the ideal mod 3
engine. The price difference was also very attractive.

A pilot friend of mine and myself are interested in The Kitfox as our second
build. ( Kolb is great ) The new Kitfox w/ the R2800 seems like fun. We both
have our seaplane rating and wish to continue with Amphib Floats with the
Kitfox. Any comments about this combination for our build would be very
helpful.
Thank you in advance
