Dwayne, if I remember correctly the removable wing extensions were a Model 5 option.
The model 4 and 5 wing are the same so it would probably work.
The removable wing extension didn't seem to catch on. There are probably not many
people around that have them or the instructions. There is a permanent wing
extension kit available for the Avid Flyer which has a very similar wing.
I think it wouldn't be too complicated. A tube or I beam incert and a few feet
of the round spar material.

Hello Dave,
Glenn Horne here. I have a set of 8.00-6 tires, wheels, rotors, and
capilers. (Matco)
Can send pictures. Also have two sets or bearings. One in the wheel's 5/8
axel the other 3/4.
Was going to use on my Kitfox II but sole the fox.

Dwayne,
I saw your post as well, and likely everyone else did too. I agree with
Tom. I suspect that plans are not available, at least not from those that
monitor this list. Ask if anyone has ideas on how it can be done and you
will likely get tons of opinions, if that would suffice. I will give you
mine. I'd find some telescoping tubing and make something like a fishing
pole ferrule for the spars and use the same structure to attach the
extension that you likely have on the wing tip, but maybe a bit more beefy
depending on what you have. I am helping a friend with his Kitfox and the
original builder found some thin aluminum angle and was able to form it to
the contour of the rib capstrip and riveted it to both the capstrip and the
rib web - top and bottom. Then he put an aluminum doubler over the wingtip
fiberglass at the edge. For one rib bay, I suspect that would be a tough
attachment.

Subject: | Vortex generators |
Some of you interested in tweeking the performance of your Kitfoxes may be
ineterested in adding vortex generators.=C2- This has been discussed in t
he past.=C2- For about $100 I am having some fun.
IAS at stall (clean) 33-34 mph down from 37-38mph.=C2- A series of stalls
was conducted just prior to adding the VG's with double sided tape.
IAS at cruise 5000 to 5200 rpm 110 mph up from 107 mph.
Not so easily measured, lift off with slight tail down attitude was 200' or
less.=C2- Rate of climb felt significantly better with a more nose down
attitude.=C2- Cruise trim setting had to be more nose down to maintain st
raight and level.=C2- Stands to reason given the increase in airspeed.
This is pretty much hearsay as no effort was made to correct for temperatur
e or barometric pressure or calibration of tach.=C2- It is enough to say
that I am convinced that the VG's have improved the Kitfox Classic performa
nce with a very small investment in time and money.
One caveat regarding slow flight or slow approach.=C2- Level attitude at
+/- 35mph or so yields about 500 foot per minute decent and results in a so
lid arrival and minimal ground roll.=C2- Time it right and you will have
to power up to get off the numbers ;-)
Joa Harrison's email address is karrisonaero@gmail.com for information on t
he VG's.

John,
You're one of very few to have any success with VG's on a IV. Would
you be interested in publishing exactly what you did so others could try it?

Hi Guys
I have had my vg's on for 3 plus years now. When I put them on I had the su
baru motor and have since changed to the 912s. I know when I first put them
on I went flying and took the numbers off my airspeed gauge. Nothing fancy
or technical. I know I had close to 8 mph drop in stall and 2 or 3 mph inc
rease in cruise. I bought 100 vg's for $100. They were just a light plastic
with sticky tape. I mounted them as per instructions that came with them a
nd have not moved them. have lost a couple of them since and will have to g
lue them down one day.
So in my experience they did work on my Fox IV speedster

Doesnt Airdale Inc sell a kit for this? None Of their products are inexpensive
but I also wouldn't consider them expensive considering the engineering that
has already been done for you.

The Harrison VG's are applied singly, not in pairs as sometimes seen, at a
designed angle, alternating inboard and outboard on 3" centers and on a lin
e 10% back from the leading edge using the positioning template provided wi
th the package.=C2- 53 VG's went on each wing, though 50 would have worke
d evenly spaced in from each end.=C2- The VG's are a clear plastic about
inch long and 3/8" high at the rear tapering to nothing at the front.=C2-
As indicated in another response the double sided tape is temporary and cya
noacrilate instant glue is specifed for permanent installation.=C2- Remov
ing the VG's from the tape is no easy task though, so it may be a while bef
ore the task is undertaken.
I ordered two sets in case I decide to install them on the horizontal stab
but with gap seals getting the tail down has never been a problem.
