Same here; I cut just off the line with a sabre saw, then sanded down to the line
with a belt sander & dremel. I also used a plasticut file to remove any tool
marks from the edges.

Guy, Thanks for the reply. I never could figure out why run a clutch except
for startup at low idle to eliminate all the gearbox vibration. Now I know
themajor advantage of the clutch is reduction if rpm on flare.
Hey, Dave Fischer do you have a problem with reducing rpm on the 582 for
landing?

In a glide at idle power, the prop is being driven by the airflow; thus, the windmilling
prop/engine is actually a drag on the aircraft. The reason for difference
between ground and glide RPM is due to windmilling effects (which produce
drag).
The fact that the aircraft doesn't want to land at idle power is simply that there
is excessive airspeed, not excessive power. I'd be interested to know what
your final approach speed is before the flare.

Mike, Thanks for your input. I'm flairing too high most of the time also. I
can't seem to get the correct sight picture for flair height. This happened
previously and I corrected it. Now I'm back to flairing too high and
bouncing back into the air. I am going to get my instructor up with me
again.

Subject: | Firewall materiel? |
I was emailing the McBeans about a couple items including my firewall blanket which
I think could stand replacement along with the engine swap. Talking with
Debra prompted me to do a little searching online which showed me that nothing
fire retardant looked like what I currently have which is grey cloth almost
vinyl looking quilted with a thin foam core and plastic backing. I can get pictures
later. Well I did a burn test on a sample and it is flammable and smells
quite toxic when afire. Does this sound
Like what others are using? So were these blankets intended as sound reduction
only? Am I just crazy and my blanket has simply absorbed too much oil/fuel?
