I agree it was just my poor terminology. Never the less FD had to do 110 pl
anes to meet the ASTM standard. Out of 110 planes there are only a few die
hards left. I have two to do this month with the Rotax 5 year rubber replac
ement. They are easy to install, but everything on the firewall needs to co
me off with a couple of exceptions. The engine mount and all the other acce
ssories mounted to the firewall holds it in place. Then you can use aluminu
m tape to make the edges nice and neat. The FD firewall blanket is a stainl
ess steel thick foil with a batting on the back. You do need to be careful
around the edges because it is like a very sharp knife. You also need to ma
ke sure all your oil and fuel lines are encased in firesleeve. The #10 fits
the fuel lines and the #14 the oil lines.

You mean a /printed /catalogue? What a concept. ;-)
I typed "fire sleeve" into the ACS search engine and ended up with a
bunch of hits:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/blkfirejacket.php
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/aqfiresleeve.php

Subject: | 912ul starting problems |
This spring starting the 912ul has been a problem.=C2- Following a thorou
gh checking of the induction and carburation circuits it struck me that the
battery was 3-4 years old.=C2- For the new people coming along be aware
that these little motorcycle batteries do not last for ever.=C2- When eng
aging the starter the propeller would appear to have good rpm but the volta
ge drop on the meter was significant 8-10 volts showing,=C2- not sufficie
nt.=C2- After trickle charge the engine started right up but would not ho
ld a full charge needing to be put back on=C2- trickle after landing.
Some things need to be relearned.

I don't get the difficulty with rpms while landing. I stay at 2500 on final
and the prop seems to be producing drag, since I can plop on the first 100
feet of runway. If flaring too high, try wheel landings for a while. Just
fly it onto the ground and keep the tail up until almost to the turnoff with
about 2800 rpm. The Fox makes great wheelies and you can see where you are
going-just keep that stick forward and easy on the brakes. Comments?
PS. I am about 2 months from completion of my Lancair 360 and waiting for
my Viking (Honda) for the Kitfox 4 in the carshed. ONE FOR SLOW AND ONE FOR
GO.
