Subject: | Re: Gates "Barricade" fuel hose |
I have been plagued with this problem through two Kitfoxes and have spent way too
much money on various high-dollar fuel lines with no significant improvement.
I have a "sniffer" that always pins it down to the fuel lines so I know that
is where the fumes are coming from. Not real strong, but enough that it is
noticeable when I get in the airplane.
If the advertising is legit, those hoses should work. Please give us a report
on how it goes.

[quote="Dick Maddux"]I just read about this hose in my old British car catalog
.As I am getting some slight gas fumes in the cockpit when I open the door of
my Kitfox, this sounds like a good replacement for the fuel hose that I have
been using AND if I end up using Ethanol, It can handle that.

Low Permeation Barricade Hose Prevents Fuel Vapor Loss While Delivering Peak
Fuel Efficiency
DENVER, CO - Oct. 27, 2009 Gates Corporation today launched Barricade fuel hose,
an innovative new hose that saves gas and protects the environment. The
low-permeation Barricade Hose prevents fuel vapor loss while delivering peak
fuel efficiency. Its designed for virtually any engine application thats equipped
with a conventional carburetor, including cars, trucks, ATVs, tractors,
and lawn and garden equipment.
Barricade hose is the lowest permeation, multi-fuel compatible hose on the market
today, said Senior Product Manager Richard Mirtz. Our patent-pending Greenshield
Barrier Technology allows Barricade to exceed stringent California Air
Resource Board (CARB), EPA and other state and federal requirements, making
it the most environmentally responsible fuel line hose in the industry. Plus,
with an average annual fuel savings of approximately one gallon per vehicle,
Barricade hose can dramatically reduce the amount of gasoline consumed by
U.S. motorists.
Hydrocarbon vapors escape or permeate into the atmosphere through the body of
fuel line hoses as gasoline or diesel fuel is conveyed through the system from
the fuel tank to the engine. Gates built-in Five-layer Greenshield Barrier
Technology enables Barricade Hose to achieve five times less fuel vapor permeation
(1gr/m2) and fuel waste than conventional hoses. In addition, unlike standard
fuel line hoses, Barricade hose can accommodate more fuel types, including
Gasohol, Diesel, Bio-Diesel, Ethanol, Gasoline and Methanol.
Gates Barricade Fuel Line Hose is available at local parts stores throughout
the United States.

Ten years ago I installed wheel pants on my S5 and noticed an immediate speed improvement.
Not a lot, but 3-5 mph at cruise which adds up and saves fuel. I
have a farm strip that can be wet and somewhat muddy in the spring time which
makes a mess of the airplane, thus the main reason I installed them. No more
mess. I leave them on now year around. I don't fly in the winter time so snow
and ice is not an issue.

[quote="redrocketrider"]Hi kitfox aviators ! Doing a extensive annual and wheel
change and looking to possibly install a set of wheel pants that we now have.
These puppies' are really of rather dubious size and shape. All you speedster
guys, did you see any difference in speed with the wheel pants off and then
installed ? thanks for your opinions. Bob and Toodie 4/1200
