C'mon, Dan.....you've got nothing but water under you for up to an
hour, and given the problems that you and I have had with engines
(and as for me, running out of fuel), is it worth taking the chance?

I replaced all hoses and installed an in-line water temp sending unit per
Rotax/Lockwood suggestions, and about 30 hours later had to retighten
clamps because of very slight coolant loss. I never saw signs of coolant
on any pipe, hose, clamp, but retightening the clamps did the trick.
As an aside, the in-line water temp is a bit HIGHER than the CHT mounted
reading, even when gauges and sending units are switched, so an error in
sending units, cables and gauges is not the cause. I use UMA gauges and
matched sending units.

John, this note reminds me that in the day the gasket would
occasionally leak and someone came up with an automotive replacement.
It was from a Mercedes, I believe. I can't find my reference. Maybe
someone else has the info.

Hi John, The problem that I think I will have is that the coolant tank
radiator cap is about 1/2 the size of a standard cap. I know of a great
radiator shop over in Reno and I will take this gold plated beauty made
exclusively for Rotax and there probably is some smaller German car
that may have a cap this size, I am not totally toast yet, but I am
losing small amounts of coolant and it could be that all the air is not
out of the system yet, as I changed to dextron which has seemed to help
but it is 16 to 24 * F up here so it is hard to tell at this point, I
thought I would toss a new cap on just for grins but the old one
certainly looks good at the moment. Thanks for everybody's help once

After a little research, found that the 912 uses a pressure of 1.2 bar
for the radiator cap. 1.2 bars is equivalent to 17.4 pound per square
inches.
18 psi caps by Stant are available from amazon.com:

17 psi caps are also available from amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Stant-10251-Radiator-Cap-PSI/dp/B000C8226K
I'd try one of these rater than shelling out $80. May be that your
local auto parts store can get one for you without the shipping charge.

Hi All,
Happy New Year!
We have a dilemma, just got off the phone with Aircraft Spruce and
they want $80 for one radiator cap!!
Anyone know of another source to purchase one not costing that much?
Thanks Bob

Lowell,
Are you thinking of the Mercedes gas cap gasket?

Guy,
Thanks for that. I guess it is a little of the senior moment thing.
Gas cap - radiator cap, all the same to me. Now if my wife was home,
she could help me find the project I'm working on.

I switched to the yellow tubing a few years ago.- I also used this tubing
for my sight gauge.- I found it difficult to see the fuel level so-I p
urchased two fuel gauge floating balls from I think Univair and placed them
in the sight guage.- It works pretty good.- One problem was that the b
alls were too large for the inside diameter of the tubing.- I had to file
/sand the balls down to the correct size.- I know what some of you are th
inking, I have too much time on my hands.=0A=0AMike=0A =0A=0A______________
