Lowell, You better not resubscribe with a ficticious name. There are about
5 guys on this list that are right next to God when it comes to Kitfoxes as
far as I'm concerned. I couldn't have rebuilt mine without their help. Your
one of them and Lynn is another one.

Besides all that, that site seems like a bunch of people who have
"jumped ship", or went for the newest gadget, as it were. I like the
Matronics venue because it gets mailed to my computer and I don't
have to go hunting for it....my visits there are infrequent at best.

a picture in a nice magazine article about his Kitfox doesn't have much room
to talk...right Lynn?
I certainly understand your "hanger mate' with all his buddies hanging
around as that is what we have at our airport.As an example a few weeks ago we
had to rally and go find a friend of ours who had an off field landing in a
cow filled field amongst an area filled with trees. He called us on his cell
phone.
The Hirth engine blew a spark plug out of its hole and he did a nice job
of landing the Hornet he was flying. The problem was finding him, but we did
it with a friends Champ and our "ground crew."
A few beers were tipped later after the aircraft was rapidly disassembled
and removed before the cows decided to have a snack! Buddies are good to
have !!!
Congratulations again Lowell! Your genius has sure added to the enjoyment
and utility of my aircraft!

Friends, good friends and airplanes, good things to have, nice to sit in
the hangar talking to the airplane and buddies, nothing wrong with
woman, but they hardly understand the beauty of an aircraft. Or as my
brother in law say, "the more I learn about woman, the more I love my
car" He have a Mercury in his hangar, I mean garage. he is a car only
guy.
Propellers is more like woman, nice curves, nice to look at, but hard to
figure out.

Thanks Dick,
I had a chat with my hangar mate early on - he is retired AA and in fact
mentioned that the 747 that piggy backs the shuttle that is on tour was
in the AA inventory when he was flying and had flown it a lot. Anyway
our talk was about the difference I felt while there and contrasted to
here in a residential airpark community. Here they are neighbors with
all our imperfections and all the neighborhood intrigues. There it is
all airplanes and friends. Nearby there is a pizza spot and you never
see the guys during lunchtime as they are together once again there.
Building at home can be a lonely experience.

Jan,
Had to laugh. The philosophy - right on the spot. My wife, though has
been really supportive. Talking about insurance one day, I mentioned
that I would likely just get liability coverage because it was much less
expensive. Her response was, "I think I'd pay for the full coverage".

saying is that she would pay the premium. She is not yet retired and
still has the financial flexibility. There might just be motive though.
She is a flight attendant for UAL and is gone fifteen days a month. At
least she knows where I am when she is in Shanghai or Sydney.

Lynn, I agree.
I started on the email list in about 1994. It was after seeing some print
outs from the list at one of the first factory fly-ins after starting my
first Model IV. I read every post - 532s, 582s, 912s Model Is - everything.
I learned a ton about Kitfoxes and the guy with the model I flying behind a
532, just might have the answer you were looking for. With all the
compartmentalizing there is a lot that gets missed. I was having the rough
running band between 3 and 4000 RPM and found the answer in the Matronix
archives after a long search on the other site. I just wish there was more
activity, but the other site is way down now as well.

hangar! I let my husband sit in the hangar to work on our

Had to laugh. The philosophy - right on the spot. My wife, though
has been really supportive. Talking about insurance one day, I
mentioned that I would likely just get liability coverage because it
was much less expensive. Her response was, "I think I'd pay for the
full coverage". From me - "That would really hurt my budget". What she
was actually saying is that she would pay the premium. She is not yet
retired and still has the financial flexibility. There might just be
motive though. She is a flight attendant for UAL and is gone fifteen
days a month. At least she knows where I am when she is in Shanghai or
Sydney.

I certainly understand your "hanger mate' with all his buddies
hanging around as that is what we have at our airport.As an example a
few weeks ago we had to rally and go find a friend of ours who had an
off field landing in a cow filled field amongst an area filled with
trees. He called us on his cell phone.
The Hirth engine blew a spark plug out of its hole and he did a
nice job of landing the Hornet he was flying. The problem was finding
him, but we did it with a friends Champ and our "ground crew."
A few beers were tipped later after the aircraft was rapidly
disassembled and removed before the cows decided to have a snack!
Buddies are good to have !!!
Congratulations again Lowell! Your genius has sure added to the
enjoyment and utility of my aircraft!

What's the time lag on a temperature change after you adjust them?
Interesting you ask. I don't know and that bothers me a bit as I have
been playing with them some, but have never watched through an entire
cycle. The reason - I have an intermittent issue with the oil temp
gauge. It is in the Quad gauge from Westach and occasionally it will
peg at max reading. According to their trouble shooting guide pegging
at max is due to the gauge ground being faulty. I did find a poor crimp
and fixed that and it was fine until I started playing with the shutters
in flight. I did find that I can get about a 50=B0 differential reading
open and closed - OAT ~ 95. But, and this is interesting, if I close
them in flight I can watch the temp climb and then pow, it might peg at
max. Then by opening the shutters, it will suddenly give the correct
reading. I seem to have an issue that is only triggered at higher temps.
I have decided that it is the sender and plan on installing a new one
- probably later today or tomorrow. Not trying to be commercial, but we
make an inline thermostat as well. We don't use the bleed line. It is
similar to what is in a car. We do enlarge the bleed hole through the
diaphragm in the thermostat. That is the one I use and it is a 180=B0
thermostat and works very well.

The oil cooler is in the same place with shutters. The first picture
is the mount style, but this is a V that I helped a guy finish. The
shutters have half inch vanes instead of the one inch on the last one.
Your mount is sexy. Glad I hadn't made mine yet. And I just bought a new
tube bender. Do you still market the vanes? What's the time lag on a
temperature change after you adjust them?

I carry one of those hospital-supplied plastic "catch cans" in my
'fox.....one day I was flying over a lake in Ohio and watching all
the waterskiers, etc., and suddenly it hit me that I had to
go....BAD! So I adjusted myself and the catch can (intergalactic
docking?) and somehow the plane started to dive..I had nudged the
stick a bit with the catch can. When telling my flight instructor
about this, I got to the part about the plane diving, and he said "it
changed the CG THAT much?" We had a good chuckle....

Thanks..............wish there were more women flying too. I grew up
with the guys we were all young and fit in fine with everyone treating
each other with kindness. In the 50's the gliders were old big clunkers
and needed the help of all of us in order to get one guy up in the air.
Fun times, things have drastically changed in that sport, so here we are
in our later years flying the KF....which by the way thermals and
soars... much better than expected!
I love hangar flying..........we did it a lot after soaring! I was
teasing about Bob................he is at our hangar more than me. LOL!

Do you happen to know Bob McKay? He is older now and I don't think he
flies any more but did a lot at our gliderport in Livermore, glider
pilot and tow pilot too. Also, David Prather? He lives on C Park too so
does Bob.
Yep curves are always nice............fun to race with curves in the
race course....of course those would be the Historic Car Races....Laguna
Seca....Sears Point. Life goes on........... Very Nice job, a real

frequent reminder that our hobby is widely appreciated. You say High
Sierras, I am in the Low Sierras. Folks ask the significance of my N
number N338S. The Sierra is explained above and the 338 is a number
that I found easy to say. And maybe the fact that they all have nice
curves might mean something too.

year old GIRL in Gliders! And I raced cars! We have a Mercedes in OUR
hangar! I let my husband sit in the hangar to work on our

Had to laugh. The philosophy - right on the spot. My wife, though
has been really supportive. Talking about insurance one day, I
mentioned that I would likely just get liability coverage because it
was much less expensive. Her response was, "I think I'd pay for the
full coverage". From me - "That would really hurt my budget". What she
was actually saying is that she would pay the premium. She is not yet
retired and still has the financial flexibility. There might just be
motive though. She is a flight attendant for UAL and is gone fifteen
days a month. At least she knows where I am when she is in Shanghai or
Sydney.

sit in the hangar talking to the airplane and buddies, nothing wrong
with woman, but they hardly understand the beauty of an aircraft. Or as
my brother in law say, "the more I learn about woman, the more I love my

guy.

underwear for a picture in a nice magazine article about his Kitfox
doesn't have much room to talk...right Lynn?
I certainly understand your "hanger mate' with all his buddies
hanging around as that is what we have at our airport.As an example a
few weeks ago we had to rally and go find a friend of ours who had an
off field landing in a cow filled field amongst an area filled with
trees. He called us on his cell phone.
The Hirth engine blew a spark plug out of its hole and he did a
nice job of landing the Hornet he was flying. The problem was finding
him, but we did it with a friends Champ and our "ground crew."
A few beers were tipped later after the aircraft was rapidly
disassembled and removed before the cows decided to have a snack!
Buddies are good to have !!!
Congratulations again Lowell! Your genius has sure added to the
enjoyment and utility of my aircraft!

I just checked Beckwourth on Google Earth and it looks like you are on
the East slope. Probably an hour flight from here, but my guess four
hours or more by car. Real neighbors though, by comparison. I envy the
two passionate at home. My other is supportive, but after the Lynn
tease thing, she says she probably won't fly in the little one again.
Her favorite is the B-747.

Thanks..............wish there were more women flying too. I grew up
with the guys we were all young and fit in fine with everyone treating
each other with kindness. In the 50's the gliders were old big clunkers
and needed the help of all of us in order to get one guy up in the air.
Fun times, things have drastically changed in that sport, so here we are
in our later years flying the KF....which by the way thermals and
soars... much better than expected!
I love hangar flying..........we did it a lot after soaring! I was
teasing about Bob................he is at our hangar more than me. LOL!

Don't know any of them well. I tend to be a hangar rat and don't get up
the street much. They are all on Boeing Rd. I am sure if I drove past
their places coming and going, I would know them better. My first Model
IV passed through Livermore (LVK) I did final assembly there then we
moved to Cameron Park. Our Home was in San Ramon.

Due southwest of Reno....17 miles to Hwy 395. Big valley here. You're
right flying in the Rocket we were there in less than an hour......hour
to Truckee driving another hr to Auburn then over to your area another
hr. via Hwy 49 now there a road with curves!
That's a shame....the fox is really fun just kinda slow! After the
Rocket anything is slow! Boooo B-747 toooo big! But that makes us all
different......and exciting.

Okay, if it was before 1989 our glider field was at the outer marker for
LVK......just adjacent to LLNL where a lot of the pilots worked.
Hummingbird Haven....named for the first tandem 2 place motorglider.
Club had to relocate once again to Byron (old airport) then moved to the
new bigger one. We lived on Old School Rd. at the turn on Tassajara Rd.
then out in the country....not so now. Blackhawk came later. Probably
knew some of the same people....had a C-206T at LVK.

Due southwest of Reno....17 miles to Hwy 395. Big valley here. You're
right flying in the Rocket we were there in less than an hour......hour
to Truckee driving another hr to Auburn then over to your area another
hr. via Hwy 49 now there a road with curves!
That's a shame....the fox is really fun just kinda slow! After the
Rocket anything is slow! Boooo B-747 toooo big! But that makes us all
different......and exciting.

I just checked Beckwourth on Google Earth and it looks like you are on
the East slope. Probably an hour flight from here, but my guess four
hours or more by car. Real neighbors though, by comparison. I envy the
two passionate at home. My other is supportive, but after the Lynn
tease thing, she says she probably won't fly in the little one again.
Her favorite is the B-747.

Thanks..............wish there were more women flying too. I grew up
with the guys we were all young and fit in fine with everyone treating
each other with kindness. In the 50's the gliders were old big clunkers
and needed the help of all of us in order to get one guy up in the air.
Fun times, things have drastically changed in that sport, so here we are
in our later years flying the KF....which by the way thermals and
soars... much better than expected!
I love hangar flying..........we did it a lot after soaring! I was
teasing about Bob................he is at our hangar more than me. LOL!

a 14 year old GIRL in Gliders! And I raced cars! We have a Mercedes
in OUR hangar! I let my husband sit in the hangar to work on our

Had to laugh. The philosophy - right on the spot. My wife,
though has been really supportive. Talking about insurance one day, I
mentioned that I would likely just get liability coverage because it
was much less expensive. Her response was, "I think I'd pay for the
full coverage". From me - "That would really hurt my budget". What she
was actually saying is that she would pay the premium. She is not yet
retired and still has the financial flexibility. There might just be
motive though. She is a flight attendant for UAL and is gone fifteen
days a month. At least she knows where I am when she is in Shanghai or
Sydney.

Friends, good friends and airplanes, good things to have, nice
to sit in the hangar talking to the airplane and buddies, nothing wrong
with woman, but they hardly understand the beauty of an aircraft. Or as
my brother in law say, "the more I learn about woman, the more I love my
car" He have a Mercury in his hangar, I mean garage. he is a car only
guy.
Propellers is more like woman, nice curves, nice to look at, but
hard to figure out.

I certainly understand your "hanger mate' with all his
buddies hanging around as that is what we have at our airport.As an
example a few weeks ago we had to rally and go find a friend of ours who
had an off field landing in a cow filled field amongst an area filled
with trees. He called us on his cell phone.
The Hirth engine blew a spark plug out of its hole and he did
a nice job of landing the Hornet he was flying. The problem was finding
him, but we did it with a friends Champ and our "ground crew."
A few beers were tipped later after the aircraft was rapidly
disassembled and removed before the cows decided to have a snack!
Buddies are good to have !!!
Congratulations again Lowell! Your genius has sure added to
the enjoyment and utility of my aircraft!

Secondarily, it's nice to see this list become active again. I was starting
