It takes a while for the solvent to soak in, and this approach kept it from evaporating while it worked. Still not fast, but it did soften the stuff where it could be rubbed off with a soft cloth, applied with of liberal amounts of elbow grease. Mine was about the same vintage. It helps to peel off what you can- slow, steady... slow.....**#@*#&%!. then soak. $.02 Jack Austin, TX avid MK IV avid catalina (the kitfox is gone, and I miss her) ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 12:12:45 PM PST US From: "Lowell Fitt" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: speed Ed, Interesting questions. I'll take a stab at the 320 tail. Many guys over the years have mentioned the lack of elevator authority in the flair. I suspect that will be where you will have the problem. I am curious about the aluminum leading edge and your experience installing. I did the same and found it was somewhat of a challenge. I am flying now and am interested in flight reports as this airplane is new to me, but very similar in most points the Model IV I previously owned, but different in others - stall characteristics for one. Regarding removing the paper. It just takes time. One trick I did do was to cut a section of the plastic about 1X3 or 4 and sand the narrow end to a sharp edge much like a chisel and use that to start the new spots. It saves fingernails and didn't scratch the Lexan. Lowell From: Ed Gray Sent: Friday, October 12, 2012 9:36 AM Subject: Kitfox-List: speed Congrats, Lynn. I want to hear how you do at circles on a point in 30 mph wind! I can't relate to 2 mph, since I just came from ABQ to Dallas at 260 (ground speed) in my Lancair 360. OK I admit I had a 35 mph tailwind. BUT. I am now covering the wings on My Mod 4 1200 Speedster, with aluminum skin on the upper leading surface. Expect to have my Viking engine in December and fly it next spring. Question: has anyone found a good way to get the paper off the Skystar plastic windows after 18 years of storage? Second question: How would a Speedster handle with the horizontal tail from a Lancair 320- about 2 feet less span and 40% less surface area on the stab and elevator? It would surely add some speed, but would it have enough control landing?
