Hi John,
If the carbs are fairly old (6+years) and have never been rebuilt it's time. The
two most likely causes are float arm height wrong. It should be 10.5mm measured
from the edge of the carb. The carb must be off and upside down to measure
this. The float needle may need to be replaced. The old style has a red tip and
the new is black. If the carb vent tubes are getting different pressure readings
because of placement one may be getting a negative pressure. If a float
is starting to go bad it will not control the fuel level and it will come out
the vent tube. Pull the bowl and pour fuel back in the bowl with the floats. The
metal pins should ride even with the fuel level. If one is starting to sink
replace them both.
