I built a Kitfox with a Rotax, and fortunately flew it and survived. My new
kitfox has a beautiful Viking engine for little more than half the cost of a
912, and more power. Flying with a Rotax is like being married to an
alcoholic bipolar woman. Why would anyone put up with all the glitches,
burps, etc., and pay extra to do it? Oh, and they recently discovered fuel
injection for just a few thousand more! Ed Gray Dallas

Ed, I love my Rotax engine.....however it's a 582. I haven't had the
experience of owning the 912 but could never figure out why you would
design an aircraft engine to rev twice what you wanted and have to install
a reduction box to run the required rpm's, an auto or snowmobile conversion
engine, but not a dedicated aircraft engine. The expense and complexity of
a 912 as a dedicated aircraft engine, as you state, makes no sense. As
Dave in Canada has pointed out, "It is a misnomer to call conversion from a
582 to the 912, "an upgrade".
