Rex, I posted the location on the Back Country Pilots web site and asked if anyone
knows anything about it. Some interesting replies but nothing definite yet.
It seems to be a large cargo type plane.
here's a link to that thread. http://www.backcountrypilot.org/community/forum/latest/aircraft-on-malaspina-glacier-14157

Pete, Steve,
When I tow cross country, particularly thru oil industry boom country, I
frequently pass by hugely over size stuff taking up a full 12 foot lane
plus part of the shoulder. The drivers usually know what they are doing
and we co-exist nicely. The real issue is good equipment, driver ability,
experience and attention to when, what route and how he/she drives.
Therein lies the safety part.
Our little plane trailers and tow vehicles are miniatures by comparison to
real oversize stuff. None the less, not every driver is cut out for
towing. As Dirty Harry said, "A man has got to know his limitations."
Oh, there is a little trick to getting a Kitfox into a tight 8'6" wide
trailer that I should share. If the plane is getting close too scraping on
one side, roll both main gear tires up onto two slabs of plastic (like two
sets of kitchen cutting boards), then the plane can be slid easily
sideways at the main gear to clear the trailer walls as it moves in. If
needed spray a little silicon spray between the two cutting boards on both
sides first. This little trick has saved me lots of time and wing rash, as
I am trying to move the plane in as a thunder storm is blowing in and rain
starting to pour down.

=D8 Do that. If you come late enough next year I'll be flying too!
Otherwise I
can take you for a glider flight.
Thanks. I prefer sailboats to motorboats, so something tells me that

gonna like gliding.

Subject: | Heavy right wing |
Sacha,
I think you might have hit on the problem. My left wing is
slightly heavy.
I tried to correct it by flattening the right wing, but
conventional wisdom is to tighten the angle of attack on the heavy wing. I
have yet to do that, though.
Lowell
Lowell,
I did a preliminary investigation and it looks like the washout is ok on my
right wing, but the left wing has practically no washout (so the angle of
incidence at the tip of the left wing is quite a bit larger than that at the
tip of the right wing), which would explain the heavy right wing.
Regards,
Sacha
By the way, (I'm CC-ing John McBean here) it looks like there is a misprint
in the manual "Classic IV Manual - 2003 later", Rev. A, Section D, Page 23,
Figure D-4 "Dihedral Adjustment" mentions the Rear Spar, but the text on p.
22, number 11, says to adjust the Front Spar. It seems to me that the text
is correct, maybe John can shed some light on this.

Rex, here's a reply to my post on BCP that may help solve the mystery.
> You might want to contact the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center on Elmendorf
AFB. that's near Anchorage. They keep a chart of all known wreckage in the state
of AK. I've called in a couple of wrecks that were mapped, and one that wasn't....two
fellows missing for thirty years. Ya never know, but if it is mapped
they can tell you the type and date.

Dan,
I have two trailers.
Since we started towing with a small motorhome, I currently use the
shorter 9' wide trailer that is 24 feet long inside, no room for camper
features in this trailer. The plane is about 22 feet long folded leaving
about one and a half feet between wing tips and front of trailer. I
position the plane with about 6 inches from spinner to ramp door at the
back of the trailer. Since the tail is up on the tail wheel trailer I can
crouch down under the wing tips to get behind the plane and access the
stuff stored there. This trailer weighs in at 3900 lbs empty and has dual
3500 lb axles so with a gross weight of 7,000 lbs there is plenty of left
over weight carrying capacity.
Initially I bought an 8'6" wide trailer with a 27 foot long inside
dimension so I could have room for some camper features up front (before
the motorhome). In this case I was loading the plane nose first instead of
tail first. which means easy access around the nose of the plane to
bench/bunk, marine toilet, collapsible shower, AC unit, and generator.
Empty weight was just over 4,000 lbs with dual 3,500 lb axles.
In either case there is good room to take the engine cowl off and work on
it as well as work in the cabin area while the plane is loaded.
There you have it, a hanger, a shop with parts, tools, and spares storage,
serving as a toy hauler and even as a camper. Can't help but smile.
