o repitch the prop. I was getting about 5200 RPM during static runups, when
before the crankshaft exchange I was getting 6200. It turns out I needed t
o flatten the pitch by about 1/2 degree. I got some good advice from the Ro
tax dealer who did the work, which was that after the crankshaft replacemen
t, I had a "new" engine. I've learned over time that the most important gau
ge is the EGT. An improperly loaded two-stroke can cause the EGTs to soar.
The EAA has a great video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaaLb-BzqT4=0A

pitch, my experience is that 6000 to 6200 is about right. I then get 6600
at full power at Vx. But even still, I have to watch my EGTs during a power
ed descent when the engine is unloaded like that - they can easily exceed 1
200 F. Watching the video was the best thing I ever did for understanding h
ow to tune the engine. But what the folks who know two-strokes say is don't
mess with the mixture adjustment - instead, set the mixture as it was from
the factory tune the EGT by changing the pitch. I've found that to be grea
t advice. If you want to talk about this sometime, email me at flybyewire a

Jim,
Late notice, but the three of us here in Cameron Park are planning a
fly-in for the weekend of June 13. Early arrivals Friday, Socializing
Saturday and return Sunday. It will be small something like Desert Fox
- by invitation. It would be great if you could make it. Mark and Hal
should be here.

I have to apologize for the note to "jim" inviting him to a fly-in and
using as an address a reply to a note he posted on the Matronics list.
If anyone feels like they would like to come, drop a note and we will
make arrangements. When we used to do this in the past, it got really
too big and much beyond our ability to continue with it. Now there are
three of us Kitfoxers in our airpark to help host it and we want to try
it again.

Hey Lowell,
Geez, I wish I had a month's more notice. I would have flown my Fox there from
Daytona Beach. At 80 Kts it would have taken a month or two to make the trip:-)
Anyway, have a great time.
