Jim and Kolbers,
I agree with Jim Hefner whole heartedly about Adriel H. Four years ago I was channel
surfing on the TV when I suddenly stopped to watch a fella sitting out
in the front light airplane, flying around a huge spire at monument valley. The
video camera was attached to the wing and videoing the pilot and front half
of his airplane with Big Beautiful monument valley in the background. I remember
scarcely breathing as I watched that captivating scene.
The pilot was Adriel Heisey in his Kolb Mark II performing a special for our local
PBS (Public Broadcast Station) here in Arizona. The station is located at
the campus of ASU and I ordered that tape right then. Because of that scene
on that tape is what started me on my quest to build my Kolb Firestar II just
weeks later. I have watched that tape over and over again and still do even four
years later. Adriel is an incredible pilot and professional, and more importantly
a KOLB Pilot, and who has posted a few remarks on this very list of ours.
If only you could watch this 14 minute video of Adriel at Monument Valley--------AMAZING!
Regards,
Tim
PS- See you at MV May 17-19. Should be fabric covering here in the next week.

Before you folks get a linch-party formed, you better hear the whole story. This
was Adriel Heisey and he did have permission to fly there, but apparantly whoever
gave him the permission bothered to tell the FAA. That is not Adriel's
fault. He is a renouned photographer of the Sonoran Desert and is an outstanding
pilot. He is featured regularly in National Geographic, Arizona Highways
and has published high quality books. Someone like John Hauck has more experience,
but most of us pale in comparison to Adriel Heisey's experience and skill,
so don't throw too many stones until you hear more than a headline.

PS: Adriel is who I talked to, before deciding to buy a Kolb. He's a class act,a
real artist, a gentleman and a hell of a pilot. When you can fly your Kolb
with a velcro strap around your knee like he does while taking pictures, let
me know.

I worked up a new tank scale for the FireFly so that I could easily read the tank
gas level with improved accuracy. At this point I don't know how the scale
will hold up due to gas spilling on it, but the scale will be covered with clear
packaging tape. I hope this will protect it. The scale can be seen at:

Hugh,
The tape is "Visons of Arizona". It is second to the bottom.
"Over Arizona" is excellent as well. It is beautiful fly over scenes in a helicopter
showing all corners of the state and it's diversity. We have vast deserts,
cavernous canyons, monolific outcrops and tall pines in this state. Set
to music and some commentary of facts about each area they fly over. No Kolbs
though.
Regards,
Tim
PS- You can tell I'm a native.....I love this state!

OK Lar,
So I hear you are close to firing up that monster, well the race is on. As
of friday, the only wiring I have left is near the engine on the EIS temp
probes. The cockpit is pretty much finished up and the lexan rear enclosure
and gull doors need reassembled and installed.
I am going to put air pressure to the cooling system in the morning to see
if I got all the leaks solved. I put the acid in the battery today and put
it on the charger, should be ready to go tommorrow. I can't wait to hit the
EIS power switch and see real live temps, even if they are room temperature.
I might also say that the shop temp got up to a blistering 45 degrees today.
A friend gave me quite a deal on a Powerfin prop and it should be arriving
early in the week. I sure hope when it gets here, I'll be ready to hit the
key and make some wind.
Lets see which one of us pokey boys gets his installation puring first. :-)

HooooBoy..................now he tells me. But, but, but, it's outa my
hands now, sorta. It's taking him a little longer than I expected,
but............................snivel, snivel. I'll tell ya, from last
year, Denny; it's a real charge when your own handmade baby roars into
life. I grinned so hard for days, that I almost got lockjaw. That's why
I'm having so much fun deciding if Vamoose is a "he," a "she," or an "it."
I think "it" lacks proper respect, and normal naming is "she," but when that
thing erupted into life, there was nothing feminine about it. He really
ROared ! ! ! Talk about an exciting day.................the only thing (in
that category) better, will be the day we take to the air. So, good luck,
old son.................I hope you make it. Seems to me there's a couple of
others breathing down our necks, too, isn't there ?? Lar.

Leave it to Lar.....................when I got the new computer last Oct., I forgot
to transfer the "favorites" file into the new one. Got most of the stuff
re-found, and entered, but there's 2 (at least) that I missed, and hope you guys
can help. 1st was the one that had all the airports, as well as all the little
private airstrips listed, along with their owners, phones, etc.; and the
other was the one that let you check weather by entering the airport identifier.
Seems like I should know that one, but I guess I'm having a senior moment,
or a brain fart, or something. Totally blank. Also, between buying
the J-5; finishing Vamoose; insuring (groan) both of them; going (soon) to get
the J-5, (watching for a weather window now) etc., etc., it just don't look
like the ol' Lar is gonna make it to SnF. Sorry 'bout that.............I had
a ball last year, was really looking forward to this year, and told a lot of
you I'd meet you there, but........................ Penniless (penurious
??) Lar. Do not Archive.
