--> Kolb-List message posted by: Kirby Dennis Contr ASC/TM <Dennis.Kirby@kirtland.af.mil> Kolb Friends - I spent 2 days at TNK in London, KY last week to get some transition training in their new Mark-3 Extra, and I just wanted to pass along my experience. The main thing I went away with (besides learning how to land a Kolb without breaking something) is: Those are some great folks, and I'm happy to own an airplane that is associated with a company like New Kolb! I met the owner, Bruce Chesnut, and their two test/demo pilots, Norm Labhardt and Brian Milburn. I received instruction on two different days from both Norm and Brian in the new Mark-3 that they showed at Sun-n-Fun. Got to speak with Ray Brown for quite a while as he showed me thru the factory, and I also met Linda. All terrific, friendly people who are obviously dedicated to their cusomers and their products. And, I saw the fantastic Americana Firefly that won Best Ultralight at Sun-n-Fun - what amazing piece of artwork! (Brian said more than 250 manhours of work went into that paint job!) I recommend a trip to TNK to any new Kolb pilot (like me) needing transition trianing. I'tll be worth your effort, and you'll go home with the confidence that your airplane kit was created by a caring, professional team of folks. I'm looking forward to returning there for the Kolb Fly-In at the end of September. Dennis Kirby Mark-3, s/n 300, Verner-powered in New Mexico

I never thought to send it back to the factory for up date and repair. I will give that a try. Thanks again for the recommendations. Tom Guidroz Houma La. Kolb MKIII

Subject: Miss P'fer Can Still Fly
--> Kolb-List message posted by: John Hauck <jhauck@elmore.rr.com> Hi Ya'll: Got the tail section back on yesterday late. Cranked the 912S for the first time in a couple months. With a little boost from the Nissan PU battery, she fired right off. Besides a lot of pollen, dust, bug crap, carpenter bee sawdust and feces, a few leaves and some bird crap, she was in good shape and ready to fly. Just before dark we committed aviation after a nice long period of engine check at low, moderate, cruise and high power runups. Except for the club fisted pilot, that needs a lot of flight to really get current again, Miss P'fer performed as she most always does, delightful! Now that I have typed the above, I think I sent the same msg yesterday, but can not remember for sure. :-) Just peeked at my "sent" file. Yep, I did send one yesterday. Did some cosmetic work on the left gear leg and main gear brace. While I was as it, touched up some other dings around the aircraft. Soon as the weather straightens up down here, she is going to Wetumpka Airport for a bath. Still got to check all the stuff that needs to be checked on the engine before we load her up and head 280 degrees for about three days. I play on landing at Gouldings on or about 17 May, weather permitting. Plan to make an op stop at Harrison Field in Lewisville, Arkansas, the first day out. Richard Harris has invited me to drop by and try out his 2,800 ft airstrip and hospitality. He is about 426 miles from Gantt International Airport. Coincidental, but Harrison Field is right on the heading from Gantt to Double Eagle II Airport, Albuquerque, NM. Hope I have a spare set of spark plugs. Normally, I never need them, but if I head out without a spare set, I will. Murphy will see to that. I run Alcor TCP when I go on a steady diet of 100LL. This keeps the lead scavenged out of the engine and plugs, to a certain extent. Plugs will still get gooped up at about 75 hours on a 100% menu of 100LL. Normally it takes a little piece of saftey wire to clean the lead off and out of the plugs. Then they are ready to go another 75 or so hours. We are getting on down there now. Six days and counting before departure. john h DO NOT ARCHIVE

I guess I kind of panicked when I checked my email and their had been no "Kolb List" emails for a few hours. I was scared the server went down or some such terrible thing. Don't remember it being that quite before except on a weekend. Appreciate you fellows taking the time to get your score.
