Brother Pike:
I had the same situation with my tach-- obviously incorrect reading on
one mag, but seeming correct when on both. I spoke with Kerry Yunck at
Lockwood and he indicated there is a stator defect which pops up on some of the
older 582s. You might give him a call.

Hi Larry,
Like always you did a great job putting together the Monument Valley webpage,
thanks for making me sorry I missed it.
Didn't you have an Olympus digital camera, if so what happen to that one?
I'm hoping John Hauck or John Williamson stop in El Paso so I can get to say
hello before I depart to Janesville, WI.

Thanks, Will. Yah, I know - sometimes reality intrudes, and we gotta work
for a living. I'm not real popular at work myself right now for taking a
week off, either. Maybe next year you can schedule it in. I had an
Olympus C-720, that I used for the whole 2002 vacation to Alaska, etc. It's
probably one of the more versatile of the small cameras, and the newer C-740
with the 10X optical zoom would be even better. I had on-going problems
(mostly with my memory) with the menu system in it, so sold it to a friend
in L.A. At least, I THINK we're still friends................haven't heard
from him lately. :-) To replace it, I bought a Nikon Coolpix 5700, and
Really Like It. For my so-called memory, the menu system is easier to
remember, and work with, and there are a couple of other features I like. I
do miss the versatility of the batteries in the Olympus, and their auxilary
wide angle lens is much more versatile. The Nikon does a terrific job, but
eats batteries like candy, and they're dedicated batteries.............you
can't go to any local store and buy something that works. After forgetting
my charging unit last week, I think the optional AA battery pack is going to
happen. Nikon's wide angle, and telephoto adapters are almost useless;
pretty much wasted money. Always a compromise, eh ?? John H.
& John W. are both high time ex-military chopper pilots, and their flying
skills are amazing. It was a real rush, flying with John H. in Miss P'fer -
finally - and formation flying with the other Kolbs. Looking over
John W's Kolbra, I was very impressed. I really like the
design..................hmmmmm...................maybe he'll swap ??

Sorry to hear about your problem, Tom. It's fortunate that it wasn't more
serious, and also fortunate you have the capabilities to fix something like
that yourself. As I recall (with MY memory ??) didn't we all
agree that late May was the perfect time for Monument Valley, but still a
little early for Montana ?? Seems to me the Kuffel couple left Whitefish in
a snowstorm ?? Whitefish, MT is right on the edge of Glacier Nat. Park,
and is a tremendous vacation spot. Tom & Betty are among the best hosts
I've ever met, as well.................Tom's "Kuffel cakes" for breakfast
are great ! ! ! I had thought that we'd tentatively proposed a fly-in to
Montana in September ?? If we can work it out, I'll try to be there, tho'
the boss at work will have fits. So will my bank account. For me, early
October would be better, and the Northwestern weather should be about
perfect then. I kept looking at that picture of all of us sitting
by my truck, in the shade. Thought I'd met everybody, and even remembered
them, but couldn't place that older guy sitting just ahead of the rear
wheel, almost beside Tom K., and listening to John Hauck. Finally dawned on
me a bit ago....................that's ME. I'd forgotten Betty's taking
that pic for me, and didn't recognize myself. This is getting Bad ! ! !

"I'm surprised there haven't been any other comments from the Monument Valley trippers.
I thought a great time was had by all."
Lar,great job on the website pictures and commentary!!! We did truly have awonderful
time and it was great to meet everyone that came and now be able to put
a face with a name.
I saw where Tom and Betty had some adventureonthe way home.... guesswhere there's
a trace of a problem, there's a bigger problem waiting to get worse. I hada
similar adventure getting back to Tucson .... just got in this morning.
I had an overheating situation around Kayenta when I wastowing my trailer into
a baddust storm.... wellto make a long story short, my car started overheating
when it wasn't even working hard after heading home and by the time I got about
15miles south of Chinle, where Canyon deChelley is located, Ihad to park the
trailer off the road and limp back to Chinle. It overheated without pulling
a trailer... You mightknow, it was after hours, so getting help was a challenge....
finally got the police station to contact a towing service and hadthem go
fetch my trailer and park it in the Canyon de Chelly campground. Needless to
say, a wrecker with a big yellow light towing my big trailer and depositing into
a camping spot brought out lots of curiosity seekers from all over the campground,
so I had the trailer open and everyone came to look at the Firefly.
Turns outthe closest place to get a car serviced when you break down on the Navajo
reservation(unless you are trust youcar to local "shade tree mechanics", which
I didn't)was Gallup, NM, which is 95miles away. The next morning thesame
tow truck and driver picked me and my car up and hauled us to Gallup to the Ford
dealer there. As I expected, itturned out to be a failed thermostat. Cost $100
forthe parts and labor and $375 in towing fees between the car and trailer....
OUCH!!! Oh well, it was a reasonably priced trip until then...I had had such
a wonderful time upat M.V.the past several days, so I didn't let this little
misfortune bother me much at all. While I waited on my car, I watched myvideo
from Monument Valley and Lake Powell flights to remind me of more pleasant things.
I was glad to have my wheels back late afternoon yesterday, with a holiday
weekend fast approaching, when getting anything fixed would be impossible.
I hooked onto the trailer and started toward Tucson around 7pm last night and
got back toSanManuel airport around 5:30am this morning.
Lar, I did log a little over 5.5hrs in the FF while up there. When you pull the
plane there and don't do the cross country flying, you are more motivated to
get out there and see the sights I guess. I especially enjoyed the Lake Powell
flight on Wed morning, but was frustrated not to be able to ID Rainbow Bridge....
saw in another post where Boyd and others spotted it.... oh well, next time.
Due to holiday plans, I won't be back at my house until Monday night, so I won't
be able to retrieve any digital pic's or video untilprobably mid next week.
It was a wonderful time and a great group of folks. Hope we do something like this
again, whether at M.V. or somewhere else. Whitefish would be great, but probably
a stretch for hauling my FF... might make a nice motorcycle trip though.
Happy Memorial Day to the Vets! It was really fun listening to the war stories
of helicopter flying by John Hauck and John Williamson! Hanging out mid day story
tellingand around campfires in the evening were as enjoyable as the flying
(almost!).

Ronnie,
My reasons were as follows:
1) every bump is transmitted to every rivot & bolt in the airframe.
2) I was using my US as a lawn mower too often.
3) It restricted the prop diameter.
4) Tortoise holes, ant hills & hidden ruts too often bent or broke the gear.
Going to a shock absorbing taller gear solved all of these (for me,
serious) problems. Raising the gear a foot, dropping the engine a few
inches & adding a gearbox (which replaced the multi-V belt redrive that was
prone to cracking & no longer available for parts, plus it made a few more
inches clearance between prop & boomtube) gave me greater ground clearance &
allowed the use of a 60" prop which in turn boosted the static thrust from
225lb with the 50" prop to 275lb with the 60" prop. Later, I inlaid p-tips
into the prop which took the thrust to over 300lbs. Over all, it made a
huge difference in performance and rough field capability. ...Richard

You might want to check out AAA's "+" plan, if you do much traveling. Seems
to me it was about $70.00/yr., and among quite a few other things, covers
something like 150 miles of towing. Saved my bacon, and double paid for
itself when the old blue Turbo Saab died out on I-10, about 85 miles from
home, on the way back from Copperstate a few years ago. They brought me -
and the car - home at midnight, then to a repair shop in the morning. Good
deal. When I added the RV option, it was only about $17.00, and covers my
truck, camper, and trailer. 'Nother good deal. I enjoyed your
video on Tues night, and would like to see the new one. I promised to
send someone those pics of the huge killer bear in Alaska, and can't
remember who. (???) Also, I seem to be the new owner of a small
folding chair.................white frame, navy blue cloth, and a white
strap across the front. None of those still there Wed. morning would 'fess
up to owning it, so I brought it home. Who belongs to it ?? I'd
also like to re-thank Arizona Dave & Eve Pelletier for their hospitality on
Tues. night. They fed everybody home-made BBQ sandwiches, salad, and all
the goodies, and showed a good movie afterward. Can you picture flying a
full size Cessna thru many of the arches in Utah ?? Repeatedly ?? Dave &
his friends Doug & Della were also good hosts in Paulden, AZ., on the way up
there on Sat. night. There were several people taking pictures
while at M.V., and I'd sure like to see some of them. Maybe on photoshare
?? Or send 'em to me direct ?? Thanks. Lar.

I have been getting frequent messages saying basically that The Virus Detection

and that it has been quarantined to prevent further damage.
My question is, is there a way to pin point the location, the exact address of
(such and such.net) ?
Inquiring minds need to know.
