I think that would be the European designation for the Czech-made plane. Is that correct? Mike Jackober will be dearly missed, I stopped in to say hi and have a cup of coffee with Mike whenever I was in the area. He was always interested in how things where going in Fairbanks and one of the few ultralight enthusiasts that was truely interested in all aspects of aviation. He helped me though some rough times with my ultralight and was certainly the most knowlegable and skilled trike pilot in the state. He was also internationally know for some of his innovations, especially his in flight mixture control for Rotax 2 cycle engines. This is truely a great loss to aviation, I will miss him... Have know him a long time. He was always supportive of my flights to Alaska, although I missed visiting with him in Alaska during both flights. My prayers go out to his family. john h DO NOT ARCHIVE ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:37:30 AM PST US From: John Hauck Subject: [Fwd: Kolb-List: fatality] --> Kolb-List message posted by: John Hauck > Extremely sorry to hear about Mike Jacober. Freindly, enthusiastic and competent doesn't nearly describe this man's love of the ultralight... and he fought successfully against the FAA beaurocracy that tried to keep him out of Birchwood. (I saw a yellow Firestar parked there!) Everybody loved him... he was a 2 stroke guru (inventor of the in-flight fuel mixture control for Rotax engines). I loved talking with his students who informed me how he fostered the club up there, just a car ride north of Anchorage, where he ran his flight training operation, mostly with trikes. I took a ride with him, and we flew over those mud flats mentioned in the story. I guess the trait I loved the most about him was his ability to promote and inspire enthusiasm in the sport... and not driven by profit. A VERY unique individual. I know it's hard to be concerned about people you may not know or have met, but without a doubt, this marks the end of a SIGNIFICANT contributer to our sport. You may recognize his name form numerous articles in the UL magazines. He showed me all through his hanger and flight operations. I also bought his in flight mixture controls for both of my Firestars. He was a true professional and a dedicated ultralight enthusiast. Our Sport will miss him. My two Firestars are still for sale.
