--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Doug Lawton" <skyrider2@earthlink.net> Kolbers, I would just like to publically thank Bill Teuton (sp?) for taking time out of his busy schedule this past Sunday to give my wife and I the "nickle" tour of his beautiful Kolb airplane and for showing us around his home airfield. You are a most gratious host. It was great meeting you Bill, and I look forward to bringing my little plane down to Brandon sometime in the future and committing some aviation with you. Looks like a fantastic area to fly and sightsee! Thanks again and fly safely, Doug Lawton NE Georgia & Whitwell TN

--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Cy Galley" <cgalley@qcbc.org> One would work until you needed to change the engine. You need to have a log that can follow the engine and airframe separately. That is why there are two. It is even recommended, especially for constant speed props that you have a prop log as well. --> Kolb-List message posted by: Timandjan@aol.com Does anybody know if an aluminum firewall is OK in an experimental??? Lots of knowledge on this list, this is for my other plane project, the firewall that came with the kit is a piece of galvanized metal, ugly and heavy. It has been suggested to use stainless steel as an alternative, is aluminum acceptable. Aluminum is easier for me to get and to work with. I can't seem to get a confirmed answer on what is required. I am sure that it is corect to have both, but they did not require this when I had my plane signed off, I had both the engine and airrame listed in the same logbook ans that wad ok to them. Who knows if it will be a problem in the future. I have found that the FAA requires different things from different people. One inspector requires one thing and another something else. Best bet is stainless but by the time it's installed and all of the accessories added, the scratches and dings will be apparent. Alum will burn quickly and any small fire and you will be toast. Had a buddy once had an engine fire in an ag aircraft. He didn't make it down. Not a pretty sight. Bob

--> Kolb-List message posted by: jerb <ulflyer@airmail.net> I would immediately start the process to separate them. If you have the engine is overhauled, the over haul shop enters there info into the (engine) log and signs it off. Since they have to sign the log book, better just to send the engine log and not the entire aircraft log. If they should happen to loose the engine log, it hurts the engine value, if they should loose the aircraft log, the aircraft would suffer a big market value hit. Sport will follow along the same path as used by GA, two log books. jerb At 10:49 AM 6/13/03 -0400, you wrote: >--> Kolb-List message posted by: Timandjan@aol.com > >I don't have a seperate log for airframe and engine, combined mine. They normally use either galvanized or stainless steel for that purpose. jerb At 10:49 AM 6/13/03 -0400, you wrote: >--> Kolb-List message posted by: Timandjan@aol.com > >Does anybody know if an aluminum firewall is OK in an experimental??? --> Kolb-List message posted by: "John Cooley" <johnc@datasync.com> Hello Gang, I have some bad news to share. Just read in the Mobile Register that two fellows from Pensacola, Fl. crashed on the edge of a peanut field and killed both occupants. Here is a link to the story http://www.al com/news/mobileregister/index.ssf?/xml/story.ssf/html_standard xsl?/base/news/1055495978299600.xml There was also another story in the paper that stated they banked and then went into a steep decent and were 30 feet from the edge of a peanut field. The paper also had a picture of the main fuselage of the plane in top of a pine tree. It sounds as though they had plenty of altitude and were circling to land in the peanut field then possibly stalled the plane at the edge of the field. Just found the other report, it's at http://www.al.com/news/mobileregister/index.ssf?/xml/story ssf/html_standard.xsl?/base/news/1055495984299600.xml Fly Safely, John Cooley

Some negative statements on Key West. There was a positive comment about one from Grand Rapids Technologies. Im not sure if I really need one. I just want to run a small single strobe & GPS . May want to put in an adapter for the hand held radio. Guess Im needing some guidance. Dont see anything in the conctruction manual about it. I thought every thing would be in the engine kit from Kolb. Ed Diebel
