Good for you!
Nothing like making the first flight in something
that you built in your basement. I hope you have
many hours of pleasure from your creation.
Congratulations!

Morning All:
Time is flying. Going to be time to load up and
fly out of here for OSH in about 2.5 to 3 weeks.
I am still contemplating a flight up through
Michigan. My Instructor Pilot (IP) that shoved me
out of the nest to solo a Hughes TH-55 Primary
Helicopter Trainer, Sep 68, lives in Gaylord,
Michigan. I want to stop in and see him on the
way north. I have been trying for years to locate
him. Finally, a couple months ago, I found and
talked to him on the telephone. I have not seen
him since 1968, Fort Wolters, Texas.
I flew my Firestar, 447, point ignition, from
Alabama to Homer Kolb's in PA, Bert Howland's in
NY, all the New England States, The Flight Farm,
Monterey, NY, Niagra Falls, NY, around Lake Erie,
north through Michigan to Sault Saint Marie,
Canada, across the UP and south to Oshkosh 1989.
I have not flown through Michigan since then.
Will try to get coordinated, if that is possible,
to get together with the rest of you all flying in
to Oshkosh this year. Would really be nice to
have a formation flyby and fly into the Ultralight
Airstrip down on the Farm at OSH. It has never
been done with Kolbs, to the best of my knowledge.
I did not make OSH last year because of a broken
tailpost. Lord willing and the creek don't rise,
Miss P'fer and I will be ready to go this year.
Take care,
john h
PS: The announcement increasing TBO on the
912/912S to 1,500 hours sure made me feel good.
If us users can keep them together for a while
longer, Rotax may increase to 2,000 hours. I know
of one 912 that has probably busted 2,000 hours by
now, Don Huff, La Grange, GA. His 912 gets little
rest as he loves to fly his RANS S7, I think.

tonight I
took N616DR up on her maiden flight!!!!!. All went extremely well did four
circuits of
the field, only could get 5600rpm WOT level flight so I'll have to take a
little bite out
of the Powerfin. Temps were all great and trim was near perfect, (she needed
just a tiny
bit of forward pressure).

Terry Swartz for
his advice on the phone this morning concerning landing characteristics, she
landed
exactly how he described, flew it to the ground with one notch of flaps, pulled
the power
and she parked herself right now, no float whatsoever.

Denny,
Congratulations. Sounds like you did a very good job with the building and
also covered all the bases before committing aviation in your creation. Hope

Hello Bob,
Could it be a leading edge prop tape coming loose?

My MK3 runs great with the 618 but in the last few flights it seems to have
developed a buzzing or whining sound at full throttle. As I level off and
throttle back, as soon as I come below 5900 rpm it dissapears. Probably prop
noise
but I hav'nt changed anything and it never made this sound in 7 yrs? We all
know how as pilots that we are very sensitive to any change in sounds.
Thanks for any feed back.

Bob,
Check the gap seals between the ailerons and the wing. I had one come loose on
the FireFly, and it made a nice buzzing noise.
