Ron/All:
I realize this msg is for Larry Bourne.
I have refueled and RON'd at Lake Barkley Airport
(1M9) many times, usually coming and going to
Oshkosh. In fact, the last night out on my return
from Alaska and Oshkosh, 2001, I spent the night,
on the tarmac, under the wing of my Mark III. Did
not realize you were in close proximity to
Barkley. I'll probably end up there again this
year on the return from Oshkosh.
Lake Barkley State Park Airport is an excellent
place to stop for fuel, food, and/or lodging.
They have a hot line in the FBO to the hotel.
Will send a van up to the airport to pick you up.
Have excellent breakfast in the hotel resturant.
Have never been through there when I could sample
lunch and dinner.

I actually live on Kentucky Lake about 2 miles south of the dam. That
is about 25 miles east of Paducah.
The Kentucky Lake State Park lodge has an airport also just
to the west of Kentucky dam that is about 4 miles from my home.
Barkley Lodge is not
to much farther. Give me a call and I will pick you up. Have guest
accomadations in my house for one over night couple also. This
applies to any one else traveling through this area. First come first
served

FireFlyers & Kolbers,
I reworked my nose light because the original light drew about four amperes. I
changed to some bright LEDs to reduce the current. The mod can be seen on the
bottom of:
http://www.thirdshift.com/jack/firefly/firefly74.html
Also, I attended an air show at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and some photos can be
seen at:
http://www.thirdshift.com/jack/firefly/firefly97.html
And, I found a new gas can that will let me refuel the FireFly without the aid
of a funnel, extra tubing or transfer pump. It can be seen on the bottom at:

You would do better flying your mini max to the flying as the cyuna will not
warn you when it is ready to burn a piston. how do I know this? From
coming out of the sky with no airport under me. The cyuna is a ok engine
when it is running. but how did it ever get its nick name killer cyuna
Put a 084 on that ultrastar and you will have a very good plane
Randy in NC No longer flying the soobydoo Sold it and I miss
it

Thanks everyone for the suggestions on and off the list. I finally took a small
file and sandpaper to the drum pads. By buffing them with sandpaper, reinstalling
and turning, you can see the shiny parts where the pads rub. Then I filed
and sanded again until they turned pretty well. Seems like it was only by
the mounting point for the pads opposite the activating cam. Much better now.
Thanks again,

Hi All:
Time is flying.
Plan to depart first thing in the morning, weather
permitting, for Oshkosh via:
London, KY
Greenwood, IN
Mentone, IN
Lansing, MI
Linden, MI
Gaylord, MI
St Ignace, MI
Sault St Marie, MI
Marquette, MI
Iron Mountain, MI
Oshkosh, WI
And, of course the return flight south to hauck's
holler.
About 2,200 sm.
Aprx'ly 29.3 hours.
146.6 gal of fuel.
Normally, there will be no requirement for oil or
spark plugs.
I'll have everything I need to survive for a
couple weeks on board the MK III. Other than an
occassional hot meal, refill of my three 1 liter
water bottles, and fuel, I am pretty much
independent to go..........
The 912S has 504.5 hours and the MK III has
1,850.7 hours.
Along with the old 1994 Garmin 95XL, I have seven
sectionals for this flight.
Weather here has been rotten for flying.
Hopefully, it will clear up and I will be good to
go in the morning.
I'll see some of you along my flight route, and
others at Oshkosh.
Take care,
john h

Well Ronnie....its really all in the shading...before the shading...it just
looks like a bunch a crooked stripes.
(the wife called it a circus curtain...arghhh)....I have lots more pics to
add to the website...just been awful busy..maybe after OshKosh
If ya saw the website....then you saw how i laid it out first...with
pinstripe tape and such....when you get it all red and white, you peel it
all and do the shading with an airbrush...or a small gun that can shoot a
extra fine pattern at a low rate.
BTW all that paint cost me some weight fer sure....MT shes 299 with battery
an brakes and 2.5 gallons a gas.

Old Poops,
<<Anybody got any suggestions where a scale might be borrowed/used that
measures that fine?>>
Almost any firearms reloader will have a powder scale that can measure
the weight of a postage stamp. They only need it when they are actually
reloading so borrowing it for several days is usually easy. The
conversion factor from grains to grams is strange (15.432 grains = 1
gram) but mostly you are looking for equal, right? Use equal lengths of
fishing line to hang the part(s) from the pan. Only real problem is
this only works for relatively small parts.
