--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Larry Bourne" <biglar@gogittum.com> Day late again ! ! ! I stopped for the night (Thursday) at Jim & Marcie Walbridge's Haleeka Park Campground, near Williamsport, PA., and noticed a Sporty's catalog on the sign in desk. You can guess where the conversation went from there. Turns out that Finkhaven Airport is just up the way, and Jim drove me up there to meet Jim Fink, and show me around. What a beautiful, smooth grass strip. 2600 ft, I think he said. There also turns out to be 2 Kolbs tied there; 1 looks like a Mk II, and the other a FireStar. (I think - they're both covered) He thinks one is owned by Doc Welsh, and the other by Mr. Sims. Does that ring any bells ?? There's also 3 Acro-Sports, 2 Pietenpols, several others, and - - - a 4 seat Luscombe, with the bubble windshield. They're just starting restoration on it. What a beauty ! ! ! Apparently they have a get together every Wed. afternoon - yesterday (of course) - and have a good old time. Seems like someone mentioned that they live in PA, but I can't find the message. I'll be going to Winchester, VA tomorrow, then to West-by-god-Virginia. Seems like there's another Kolb-er in WV...........?? Sorry about losing messages - the spam has been so heavy lately that I can hardly keep it sorted out, and if I delete it by mistake, there's no finding it again. After WV., I'll head to NE Tennessee, for 2 visits. Who'm I forgetting ?? I had planned on Baltimore, too, but haven't heard from the people there, so maybe not. We'll see. I would like to see the Chesapeake country, but it'll mean a lot of criss-crossing. I do plan on Kitty Hawk, so will be criss-crossing anyway, so................??? Gimpy Legged Lar, on the go. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "S Ferkey" <sferkey@charter.net> Paul, I haven't seen anything on the Kolb list lately regarding your research on the Harley EVO. I'm still very interested in learning/ sharing more information that may help to make this a viable aircraft engine. Please let me know of any updates. Thanks. Sheldon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Petty" <ppetty@c-gate.net> Subject: Kolb-List: EVO/AIR Video update > --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Paul Petty" <ppetty@c-gate.net> > > Kolbers, > I have uploaded the new video of the "Beast" to the web. Go to www.c-gate.net/ppetty or click right here www.c-gate.net/ppetty/TestRun032303.wmv it took me about 12 minutes to download. For those of you on cable or DSL it should load fast!! It's 25 seconds long and 1.5 meg in size. The video shows a warm start with a run up to 3500 RPM. I ran it today for about 30 minutes @ 3500 RPM and then did some WOT from idle and really romped on it and everything worked ok. I think I am going to move it over to a bigger trailer and run it up to 4000 RPM and let it run for a hour next run. Well that's all for now off to the airport for a lesson. 14 knot headwinds here today. Should be interesting! > > Later > > pp.... > N4958P > > Do not archive > >

--> Kolb-List message posted by: Bob Bean <slyck@frontiernet.net> Bob, make sure you have hard ground for Lar's truck, it has a tendency to sink into the grass. When I took him up to the "viewing" of my Kolb he asked "where's your runway?" Insulted, I pointed to the path through the cornfield we had just drove down. I flew out of there in my Aironickee for 25 years, if a Kolb can't handle it I'll put it up for sale. Anyway when I unveiled the plane he clutched his breast and swooned in ecstasy. -or maybe it was just a stab of pain from his arthritic knee. -BB do not archive Bob N. wrote: >--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Bob N." <ronoy@shentel.net> > >The old Grey Baron is welded to his riding Toro, opening up a smooth >patch fer BigLar's imminent landing. > >Bob N. > >do not archive > > > >

--> Kolb-List message posted by: Jim Clayton <jspc78@yahoo.com> Greeting Kolbers, Traveled to Oshkosh last week and bought a Mark 3 Xtra! After six months of research and endless e-mails to Linda at Kolb, I was ready to see and fly the Xtra. The flight went great, with no surprises (thanks, Norm). Had the pleasure to meet some of you folks on this list: John Hauck, John Williamson, Rick Nielsen, Don Gherardini, Terry and your wife Pat (sorry, I don't recall your last name) and several other whose names I don't recall. You guys were so very helpful, offering your experience and vast knowledge of all things Kolb, and I appreciate all of you putting up with my endless questions and picture taking of your planes! Visited with the crew at Kolb, hanging around all week, peppering everyone with endless questions, and they were very friendly, helpful AND patient :-) My thanks to everyone! Through this process I decided to go with the ailerons and flaps, instead of the flaperons, on the Xtra cage, and planning to run the 912S. I can't wait to start on kit #1 which should arrive in three weeks or so! For now I'm looking at air powered rivet guns, and other tools to get my little garage ready. -Jim

Never had so many questions popped at me about my airplane and Kolb aircraft. I believe Jim C is responsible for causing me to refresh my memory of many details, long forgotten, in the building and flying of Kolb airplanes. Not knocking you Jim. Only kidding. Most all of us learned about building and flying Kolb aircraft from many, many questions, hours of looking at what the factory brought to Lakeland or Oshkosh. I can remember quite vividly taking hundreds of pictures at Sun and Fun 1984, of the shiney new Kolb Ultrastar, piloted by a youngster by the name of Dennis Souder. That little airplane outperformed anything in the UL area at S&F that year. The next year, 1985, the new Kolb Firestar was debuted. I had already ordered and paid the $3,495.00 for my complete Ultrastar kit just prior to going to S&F '84, which was held in March in the early years. Had received plans and construction manual prior to departure for Lakeland. When I returned home from Lakeland, there was a note from UPS telling me he had dropped off most of my kit, to include engine, at the local country store three miles up the road. Times were good. john h DO NOT ARCHIVE
