It needs to have the wings recovered since they are over 15 years old and the original builder failed to silvercoat before spraying the final coat of paint. I do not have the construction instructions and am having to sorta "wing it" on the how and what to do. Does anyone know how much fabric and related materials (rivets, tape etc) is required for two complete wings only. If anyone has an old set of instructions that are no longer needed I would be interested in purchasing them from you. You made a great choice and I know you will be happy with your Mark III Extra. Now for the fun part, building! Hope you take and post pictures of your project as you proceed towards completion. My wife, Pat says hello and says she enjoyed meeting and talking with you. Send me your address of list and I will photo copy and send to you. If you have a pic of your plane send it to. I believe (translation = "it is my illusion") that I have a grip on the machines once again. I had offered to send plans for ? (builders plans, ski maybe?) to several people and now I do not recall if I got them all out before the machines outsmarted me and broke. Are any of you waiting on any copies of plans from me? If so, sorry for the delay. Contact me off list and I will get them out ASAP. I'm hurt.......:-( Kirk Snuffy/All: Now you know how I felt when I dropped in unannounced and found no one at home. Naw........just kiddin'. Was a great spot to camp and plenty of mosquitoes. However, they were very gentle biters. By the time next door company left, I was in my cozy little tent, in the dark, eating my MRE. Speaking of camping, and the heavy thunderstorms and rain storms we had at Oshkosh this year. First, they were refreshing, afternoon, night and the very early morning variety. We got them every day. Of the four of us in tents, five counting Lloyd with the pretty little Kit Fox, none of us had any problems with wind or water in our tents. Todays technology for tents, sleeping bags, and air mattresses is super. Not a drop of water did I get in my tent. Take care, john h DO NOT ARCHIVE ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 02:17:42 PM PST US From: "David & Maria Lumgair" Subject: Kolb-List: Flying? His is an older firefly, and hasn't been off the ground in two years. The fuel system was a mess, so we went through the whole thing - engine and all. We've both taxi tested it and we'll be putting it in the air on the next calm day we have off. We're in Virginia - so lately the weather hasn't been conducive to test flights, thunderstorms predicted every day for about the last 10. I have alot of GA experience and about 20 flights in an Aventura UL - any tips for my transition. I have talked to many Kolb fliers and they all tell me to throttle it to the ground and no problem - then today a fella - who flies Thundergulls told me they ground loop easily and to be careful. Never heard this before but thought I'd poll the masses. We had arrived at my girlfriends house that evening from Canada and I was going to head home from there ( about 50 miles) but she talked me into staying there the night instead. I got home about noon the next day ( saturday). Which wasn't long after you had left. Mosquitoes do get bad here but none of those really nasty ones like we had in Nam. One of those darn near kilt me in 69. Glad you felt comfortable here. If you're ever here again or any of the group stop here for the night and I'm not here, the little travel trailer is always unlocked and feel free to use it. It has a heater and cookstove in it. Water is available on the house outdoor faucets also. Latrine is back in the pines. Kirk Kirk/All: Right. The latrine was the easiest facility to find in your campground. BTW: I landed to the west and took off to the west. Plenty room for all kinds of air ops. Somehow thru some wheeling and dealing I came into possession of a pair of Puddle Jumper amphib floats and am wondering if anyone has ever installed them on a Kolb and how they worked.
