Mike, I would run it full length if I was you, judging by the improvement the the the tapes made in my Mk-3s performance, sealing the gaps really cuts down on drag. I especially enjoy duct tape tips and tricks. Have you tried golf shoes in conjunction with "dem holes in da floor for da feets"? We have no bannanas --> Kolb-List message posted by: Richard Pike I didn't answer before because I don't have a Firestar II, but I think that the more stuff you can close up, seal off, and otherwise prevent miscellaneous airflow from spilling through, and swirling around, the better. (Never mind the vortex generators on my MKIII. So far, they have been like feeding crackers to a dead man - it might look odd, but it hasn't hurt any thing...) For instance, my next step is to gap seal the elevator/stabilizer to each other, and then close off the gap between the stab and the fuselage (Gotta be major drag at that junction) Several years ago at Oshkosh, I had the chance to go over a Monocoupe real closely. That little monster was drag reduction taken to the Nth degree. Obviously, none of us Kolbers will ever make any of our birds anything like a Monocoupe. But the same principles apply, and the more they are implemented, (as appropriate) the more efficiently we will fly. It was written (5th book I think) by a friend of mine who is also a pilot. I recommend it for those who like good novels and those who want to learn a bit about the U.P. The book is "Season's Revenge" by Henry Kisor and is murder mystery committed by a bear! He also wrote "Flight of the Gin Fizz" which is not a novel but a story about his retracing the flight of Cal Rodgers from New York to Los Angeles in 1911 in a Wright Model B flying machine. I'm not pluggin' his books for him, get them from the library like I did. Good reads. I wonder if the Skidoo 1L. V-twin has any potential or just a boat anchor? Yamaha also has a 998 cc 4stroke and Polaris something they call the liberty marine engine. The interesting point is that some of these snowmobiles or water craft sell in the $9000 range. If the engine was really a winner you could pluck it out and sell the remains. -BB do not archive Don Gherardini wrote: >--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Don Gherardini" > >Jack H, and the gang > >I dont know if you have run across these guys yet Jack, but there engines >are begining to get very interesting.
