Maybe another possibility would be using your wings on a Kolbra fuselage. I
think the only differances are the root ribs wing attatch fitting, the angle
of the wings strut attatch fitting, and that the Kolbra has flaperons
instead of flaps and ailerons.
The Kolbra may have more room for larger pilots, and you would have a little
faster bird.
Since you would be flying solo most of the time I think the inline seating
would be a lot more enjoyable.
Just a thought.

upper half for experimental purposes? If the distances were equal you would
still have a symetrical situation. The angle would be less (and guys

in cruise.

Bob,
I have often times wondered about this. With the wings drilled low on the "ear"(high
angle of incidence), I would think this would provide a lot of induced drag
and slow the plane down. I see no reason why you couldn't drill higher and
lower the angle. This will change the dihedral slightly, not a huge issue. You
could gain some speed out of the deal.
A friend of mine has a Firestar II/503/enclosed and I can fly faster at the same
RPM with my 447/open cockpit. This could be the issue. I never looked into it.

I think if you look into the fact of re-drilling the holes in the
tabs to change angle of incidence
you'll only succeed in changing the relationship between the wings and tail
feathers . ( not a good
idea ) . The angle of incidence WHILE IN FLIGHT will not change , the only
characteristics that
will change the angle of attack are : WEIGHT AND AIR SPEED ! ( i.e. drag
and lift )

Changing the angle that the wings are mounted to the fuselage is changing
the angle of incidence and does not change the angle of attack. Angle of
attack is set by the mount of lift that the wing needs to generate in order
to support the amount of weight you are carrying. If you want to fly at
lower angle of attack you need to go faster or reduce the weight. Lowering
the incidence angle sets the minimum drag angle of the plane, more incidence
optimizes for lower airspeed. If you reduced the wing incidence you would
have to change the landing gear and tail angles as well. Once you have done
this the only thing that would change in flight is the drag of the fuselage.
The rest of the plane would be flying the same as it was before. Since you
can only get a few degrees out of the change you described I don't think you
would even be able to tell that you did it.

I think this would only make your Mk-3 fly around at a more nose high
attitude to get the wings back to the proper flight angle. You would also
need to hold back pressure or nose up trim to fight the stabilizers tendancy
to lower the nose.
As it is now, my Mk-3s nose is already to high for short people to see over
the nose cone in level flight, I think your idea would only make this worse.

Hi Gang:
Pulled the gear legs off Miss P'fer today. Took them out to the
Wetumpka Airport to use my buddy's 20 ton press. Fun having all that
power under one hand.
Made a couple blocks to hold the legs and one to press on from some
2X4 stud material. Amazing how far 20 tons will compress white pine,
or what ever kind of tree they saw those 2X4's.
This was the first time I had tried straightening steel legs. It
worked great. I sorta snuck up on them, until I got the feel of how
far to go beyond straight to get them to hold where I wanted them to.
Actually, it took a lot more opposite bend to convince them to
straighten up than I thought.
Now I have an idea how much load I put on the left leg to get that
much bend in it. I think it was the result of several really hard
landings.

of maybe's. I was going to wait a little
longer and ask for a better count as we near that time.
I spoke to the owner of Shreveport North where the Fathers Day fly-in is held and
he said all are welcome. Will be getting more
info out soon. Hope to meet you there.

We are hoping to make the 65 mile trip from there to Homers either Saturday
or Sunday to salute the Father of our little planes on Fathers Day weekend.

Yes I saw your note that Homer said to come on down.
I really appreciate that you are acting as our conduit to Shreveport North
and Mr Kolb. I also am looking foreward to meeting you and all the other
Kolbers and someday Kolbers there, it should be a great time if we get the
weather.
I hope to fly out that way soon to pre run the trip so as to avoid any
unexpected surprises , and also to check out Lurays Slingshot. Has he got
that new engine fired up yet or what? The suspense is killing me. :-I
I really am hankering to go somewhere in my Kolb, 40hrs is a long time to
hang around the same area.
