Kolb Friends attending MV in May -
I just called Goulding's Campground in Monument Valley to make my
tent-camping reservations.
Here is some info that I think is important to pass on: We (Kolb Group)
probably should make our reservations soon. Unlike last year, where Big Lar
informed us that campground reservations were not really necessary, this
year is different. It will be crowded at the campgrounds the weekend of
14-16 May.
I spoke with Rod, at campground reservations (435) 727-3231. He told me
that there will be a large RV group staying that weekend (32 vehicles!)
which will take up half the campgrounds. If any of you are planning on
taking your RV to the Kolb Group get-together (*Az Dave*), then I recommend
you make reservations soon.
I informed Rod that there will be several of us ("Kolb Group") who are
planning on staying at the campgrounds that weekend, but I only made a
reservation for myself. Rod said he could put all of us "Kolb Group" tent
campers in the same area we had last year. That was a lot of fun - I hope
we get the same arrangements.
Full-hookup RV sites are $26 per night; tent sites are $16 per 2 persons,
plus $3 per additional person. Campground facilities include firepits at
the campsites, restrooms with showers, indoor swimming pool, grocery store
and a restaurant. Goulding's also has a nice lodge with 62 rooms, at $68
per night. There is a gas station 100 yards from the airstrip.
Looking forward to seeing you all there. I will be driving up from the
Albuquerque area, my Mark-3 in tow. With training wheels.

Thom and others,
Not knowing what your plans are for staying over at the NE Fathers Day Fly-in at
Shreveport North Airport, I thought I should mention that there is very limited
housing available there in the "Bunkhouse". You would need to contact them as
soon as possible if you are interested.
Go to www.footlightranch.com and all the information is there.
Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!!!!!

Dennis,
Reservations made! Thanks for the reminder. Rod said he'd try to get
me close to the tent guys. That'll save John and the other "old guys" :-)
from having to walk to supper. Yeah, Eve is planning a supper for everyone
for one of the nights - dunno what the menu is yet. Working hard on the
MkIII trying to have it ready. Looks promising so far but everything takes
about triple the time I figured. Got one wing done and only have to put the
finishing tapes on the leading edge and trailing edge, then about 87 hours
with the iron.

AZ Dave/Gang:
Gee, thanks for thinking of me and the other old guys. Can't wait for
Eve to get supper ready. Last year she really did a great job feeding
all us hungry aviators. Even got me a dixie doodle, ice cream bar for
you young folks. Or was it a drum stick. CRS again.
My big problem now is creating a place to stow my walker in the MKIII.
Should have thought about that when I built it. Never realized I
would fly one airplane this many years. Just did not look far enough
into the future.
See ya at MV. Gonna be a good'un.

Don,
I made a trip to Wicks today to get some materials from which to make a new
engine mount for the MZ34. As I was leaving I glanced over to their
bulletin board, and there was your FireFly.
I am self imposed grounded again. Earlier this week, I glued the foam
fairings onto the trailing edges of the ailerons, elevators and rudder. Then
it turned cold and windy and I have not been able to finish them up.

I plan on being there. In fact, I took last Friday off work (first nice

within gliding distance of Homer's field. Just a little scouting trip. As
I learned at the Engineer Officer Basic Cousre (EOBC) "There is no

didn't know nada. Call in the morning - he'll be there then, and we can

Hi Jim/All:
Yes. Everyone makes their own reservations, or takes a chance at
tent camping in a bare area that Jim Hefner parked his Fire Fly
trailer last year. I think that is where all the tent campers will
set up.
If you are coming in an RV, best make reservations.
Same for folks that will be staying in the lodge.
You all correct me if I am wrong, please.
Take care,
john h

We can't let all the MV bound Kolbers have all the fun. :-)
I know how you feel about the weather, I am still swamped in at our airport,
every time its dry enough to get across the freshly buried electrical lines
between my hanger and the airstrip, its either too windy or I have to work.
I can't wait to do my own recon trip.

Dear Lister,
Please read over the Kolb-List Usage Guidelines below. The complete
Kolb-List FAQ including these Usage Guidelines can be found at the

Thank you,

Kolb-List Usage Guidelines
******************************************************************************
The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Kolb-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the Kolb-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.
Kolb-List Policy Statement
The purpose of the Kolb-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.
- Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and
terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
responses.
- Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address,
aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line
about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid
bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
space in the archive.
- DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the
web page or FAQ first.
- If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it
easy to find threads in the archive.
- When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the
reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that
quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
can not be overstated!
- When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the
"reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
response to the original poster. You might have to actively address
your response with the original poster's email address.
- DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I
agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.
- When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
contribute something valuable.
- Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack
other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that
will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.
