Denny,
Let me know when you are coming in this way on your breakout
flight. Would like
to make your acquaintance.
Luray is going to fire up his new Jabiru engine this
saturday and I and another
UL'er are going to be there to witness the initial blast.
We helped him mount
the engine several weeks ago. He getting very itchy to get
flying again. He
should be more than ready for our NE Fathers Day Fly-in. If
you have any
influence on the weather gods, work on good weather for this
years fly-in.
Weather hasn't been real agreeable around here lately
either.

finding Homers farm? Your on the list!
Looking forward to meeting you at the fly-in

Monument Valley veterans,
Is insurance required to attend? I have a chance to attend
Monument
Valley with my Firestar this May, and I am currently working
on getting
insured, but I don't know if the paperwork will be done by
the Fly-In.

Terry,
I sure will let you know when I am heading out your way, I
may have to find
a place to overnight out there as there is a lot of ground
to cover.
Glad to here Luray is close to being back in the air, let us
know how the
start up goes.
I'll talk to the MAN about the weather, but I think the
Fly -In is pretty
far down his list of priorities so we will have to deal with
what we get.

Dennis,
Reservations made! Thanks for the reminder. Rod said
he'd try to get
me close to the tent guys. That'll save John and the other
"old guys" :-)
from having to walk to supper. Yeah, Eve is planning a
supper for everyone
for one of the nights - dunno what the menu is yet. Working
hard on the
MkIII trying to have it ready. Looks promising so far but
everything takes
about triple the time I figured. Got one wing done and only
have to put the
finishing tapes on the leading edge and trailing edge, then
about 87 hours
with the iron.

Kolbers,
I was going through and moving all my parts from kit 2 in to
the storage bins and
what few parts left from kit 1 and noticed I had 2
prestamped aluminum gussets.
They are just like the ones that come on the prebuilt main
ribs and attach
the main ribs to the leading edge. They will fit perfect on
the out board main
rib opposite of the one that comes already on the rib.
Anyone know where these
go? Kolb is closed today or I would call them. I want to put
the final few
pieces on the last wing and start on the ailerons and flaps
this weekend.

Terry,
My buddy, Ken Mancus (deceased) and I flew our Kolbs in
there seven years ago
on Oct 7, 1997. Ken was more experienced at navigating, so
he led the way.
As I recall though, he didn't have any trouble locating it
from the air.
There were some black smoke stacks adjacent to it (not the
Pottstown Limerick
nuclear cooling towers, which are about 5 mi NW). The field
is situated on high
ground and one end of the runway ends towards one side of
the buildings. At
that time the farm consisted of a house, barn (where they
did the
manufacturing), large pole building (hangar) and a few other
smaller out buildings.
There
is also a nice pond. Homer is a collector of antique John
Deere tractors, so
if you see one of them, it might just confirm that you have
the correct place
in sight.

Hi Jim/All:
Yes. Everyone makes their own reservations, or takes a
chance at
tent camping in a bare area that Jim Hefner parked his Fire
Fly
trailer last year. I think that is where all the tent
campers will
set up.
If you are coming in an RV, best make reservations.
Same for folks that will be staying in the lodge.
You all correct me if I am wrong, please.

You may remember my adventures with Vamoose' sandblasted and sun-baked windshield
a while back. I tried using the Novus on a lambswool buffer on my random orbit
sander, and it did OK........better than it was after trying it by hand.
BUT..........a few weeks later, it had deteriorated again, and I was amazed at
how bad it had gotten and how fast. No question now. Yesterday I did the passenger
side; today the drivers' side. Took some pics yesterday, and just now
added one to the webpage I'd built before. Take a look at it at:

There-in lies a Catch 22. John H has covered his windshield for years, and
swears by it..........hasn't had any problems at all, and Miss P'fer looks
great. Yet, if you read recommendations by the "pro's" they unanimously
tell you not to do it, cause it traps dirt under, and gets rubbed by the
wind, etc. Sooooo..........since John does it with pleasure and success,
I'm just liable to give 'er a whirl, while away from home, and see if it
lasts more than the 5 or 6 years this one did. I was thinking a bit ago
about the chefs at work - they use big rolls of saran wrap to tie roll-aways
of food together, keep them clean and from spilling. I might just try
grabbing a roll end of that stuff and wrap Vamoose' whole front end. No way
would it flap in the wind............but then again, I forget - Vamoose is
gonna live in the trailer, so I guess it becomes moot, eh
???..........unless, as I say, I'm away from home and need to protect it.
We'll see. Lar. Do not Archive.
