Hey, Larry - that is a GREAT offer you are gettin' from Hauck!
Hauling fuel jugs is easy payment.
I used to wash the oil & grease off the bottoms of nasty old Cessna-150
trainers for airplane rides when I was a teenager. Not nearly as much fun
as getting a ride in a Kolb.

Kolb Friends -
I will be driving up, with my Mark-3 on a trailer.
I will bring 2 five-gallon gas jugs, maybe a couple more if I can borrow
'em.
Since I am driving, I can also bring all my tools, for whoever may need to
use them.
Included will be a tire pump, prop protractor, safety wire, rope, nylon
tie-wraps, fabric repair kit, drill, extra AN hardware, clecos, plenty of
duct tape (but no bailing wire), and several other like items that might be
useful. I'll even bring extra landing gear legs (but I hope nobody will
need to use those!).
I am also bringing up some firewood and a few extra chairs.
And a cooler filled with cold beverage (Goulding's is in Utah - remember?)
Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Looks like we'll have plenty of gas cans because, along with yours, we
will be bringing up a few. We will also have some firewood and other things
you mentioned.

Hi Dennis/All:
Great!
Our firewood toters, Tom and Betty Kuffel, will not be flying down to
MV this time around. Remember, last year, they air freighted
firewood, beverages, and many other useful items in the Prospector.
We are going to miss their company.
Chairs are also at a premium for use aviators who do not have room for
more than a folding stool.
14 May is three weeks from today. I hope to get there 13 May or
sooner, depending on winds and weather, and of course, when I depart
Titus, Alabama. :-)
Take care,

For those that wish, here is a url to email Tom and Betty in St Pat's
Hospital, Missoula, MT:

I am sure they both would love to hear of you. One of the things
Betty reminded me to do was "lease tell the Kolb List that they were
in good shape and do not worry."
I just fired off an email using the above system. Will know how it
works soon.

Gentlemen, I need your help.
After my father's passing, I'm trying to figure out what to do with our
Ultrastar (completed, never flown) and Kolbra kit (Serial #001 cockpit
with complete wing and tail kits - unstarted). While I would love to
complete the Kolbra and fly both of them, I am realistic and may decide
to sell - I hate seeing it sitting there.
I'm trying to find a place in or near Winston Salem, NC to park the
Ultrastar in its trailer. I can not park it at my house. I have access
to a field but it's 45 minutes away, and doubt I'd ever seriously get
over to work/play with it. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on my
situation and any help or suggestions, please.
Thanks guys

Dennis and all,
Thanks for the responses on my use of sail repair tape for aileron gap seals.
I went out to the hangar this AM and spent about 4 hours cleaning the gap surfaces
with Windex, measuring and applying the tape. It took one twenty five foot
roll to do all of the wing gaps and the tail gaps. I tried to keep the seals
down in the gaps so they would not show the dirt that inevitably accumulates
around the edges. It all turned out very well and there was no evidence of any
problems after the first day of flight testing.

Duane, and All,
This topic was discussed a few years ago, and the consensus then was: Sail
repair tap is an excellent choice for gap seals, for all the reasons you
stated (flexible, durable, easy to replace). I wonder if 2-inch wide tape
is sufficient, though - I used 3-inch wide bookbinding tape, and it seemed
barely wide enough to do the job. Let us know how it works out ...

Finally...
I ran out of things to fix on my Mk lll this afternoon and got into the flight
test prep mode. After a final inspection by my friend and fellow builder Rutledge
Fuller and a few more fixes he took her out for taxi testing. Every thing
went well so he took her up for a few crow hops (3,500' of grass) before we ran
out of time. She handled just fine but I wanted to do a little more trimming
before we released her for a complete wring out of everything she is capable
of doing. She really looked great in the air.
