My cynical side says that Rotax may be trying to ward off or be in the middle of a legal action? Or, they are simply in a bit of a slump and are trying to maintain the production lines. I understand that it is hard to fire or lay off employeed in much of Europe? I guess if the skinny was out there, someone would have posted the answer? It surely isn't because Rotax likes us!! I would suspect that they have a poor frontal profile and are too heavy. They sure make a lot of low rpm torque though. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Olenik Aviation" <olenik-aviation@buyitsellitfixit.com> The excuse given officially is that due to sport pilot, it may be difficult to convert certain older engines to light sport compliant with shaky histories. However, they may just want to stop supporting the older 503's and are doing this to be nice prior to discontinuing support like they did with the older 447's and all the 377's. The side effect is that they are putting thier repairmetn into a bind for probably the next several years even though the deal only lasts 6 months. I guy named Dell, who has a FireStar, was building a strip on his property about 20mi SW of me, but I lost his name & number. There is an active UL club called the Flying Gators located about 1 mile sw of Hwy 27 & Hwy 19, which is about 10 miles south of Leesburg. They should be a short flight from Winter Haven. It was built nearly five years ago with a 447, taxied, but never flown. I've since put a couple of local flights on, within site of the Winter Haven Airport. It's pretty light on wing loading, feeling perky, in any wind or light thermal activity, but great climb performance and visibility... I'd like to hook up with any flyers in the Central FL area. Saw (recognized) John H.'s Kolbra at Sun n Fun. Would have liked to meet more of you. Maybe next year......Dick Woodsum, (do not archive).
