Nor Easters,
I'll be leaving tonight at midnight for a weeks vacation at Kitty Hawk NC.
Since I won't be around until less than a week before the North East gathering,
I figured I would post my plans for Wellsville in case anyone wants to join me
along my trip to Shreeveport North.
Weather permitting, Linda and myself will be leaving McVille airport (P37) in the
afternoon of the 18th in the Mk-3. We are planning only one fuel stop , most
likely at Altoona (AOO) or maybe Huntington County (MUU).
The plan is to meet my mom and the kids at Wellsville and set up a big tent to
stay in through Sunday, leaving Sunday afternoon.
Good luck to all those planning on attending, and keep praying for fair skies.
If my route matches up with anyone elses, drop me a note and we'll see if we can
meet along the way.
Sincerely,
Denny Rowe

Kolbers,
I have been trying to get a hold of Homer this week to confirm our arrival at
his farm on the Saturday before Fathers Day. Haven't been able to contact him
yet. We originally set it up to be Saturday the 19th. at his farm at Spring
City with a backup on Sunday if the weather dictated. He would prefer Saturday
so as to not disturb the church at the one end of his grass landing strip. If
we do have to go in on Sunday we will have to respect the proximity of the
church.
I will be flying directly from my field here in southern Lancaster County to
Homers on that day unless some want to meet me at Smoketown airport. We could
then go as a group from there. Smoketown Airport is just east of Lancaster
City.
For those flying into Shreveport North on Friday, there will be fuel available.
More information is available at their web page, footlightranch.com. Check the
Mason-Dixon Utralight Fly-in section.
The following is the list of people I have so far. I'm sure it's not complete
and will add to it as needed. The more the better!
Charlie Blackwell
Chuck Davis
James Dean
Bob Griffin
Ken James
Rick Neilson
Scott Olendore
Richard Pike
Joel Reed
Denny Rowe
Jeff Schutte
Wilmer Zimmerman
Terry Swartz
Thom
Bill Varnes
Luray Weachter

Gene Zimmerman
Any others? I will add you to the list. Praying for good weather!

I did web design/hosting/promotion in a previous life and TNKs new site
looks very professional. It does suffer some short comings with the
popups and uses a non-webstandard font causing problems with some
browsers. These things take time to work out so lets give them some
constructive criticism and some time to get the bugs out. Getting a site
such as this it not cheap either. Travis and gang, thanks for giving it
a good effort. The site looks very professional, but needs to be a
little more user friendly. It is not unusual for someone with good
visual design skills to be lacking in the usability area. This is why I
use a team approach when in the business. First we designed the user
interface, the feel of the site, then we made it look the way we wanted.
It usually took several revisions to get it all suitable. Web sites are
much like kolbs, they are never really done!

I liked Bob N.'s flight description. I have a Firefly also. Do you have
the 447 engine Bob? I find it a bit "bouncy" when there's a breeze a
blowing. Is that typical of the Firefly, or do I just need to get used to
it? Do not archive.

Thanks, friend Richard W.
Yep, have the monster 447 and the FlexiFlyer aka IVO prop.
And yes, with such a low wing loading every falconfart will bounce you
merrily about. Butt heck, the younguns' pay big bucks to ride on
contraptions that are just as wild. Jerk an' joy, or is that enjoy and
njerk? It reminds me of those KalKids who take the shocks offen their
jerkloppies and flop around Ah-nulledville. FireFly is more fun than
should be morally acceptable.

FireFlyers and Kolbers,
Had a great day by flying for 40 minutes in the early afternoon. Just
enough cross wind and great thermals to make it interesting. Chased up the
Mississippi River and checked out the high water. Then crossed over the
bottoms to the ridges to see farmers making hay and in the bottoms spraying
crops. I let the thermals push me up to 1,500 agl and even at this level
the FireFly would put me into the belts. Cruised at 5,200 rpm at 50+ mphi.
To stay comfortable, I wore a vest plus an old hooded sweat shirt. After
going into the belts three times in quick succession, I slowed the engine
to 4,800 rpm and dropped the nose to keep airspeed up to 50 mphi and headed
back for the airport. Slipped it back onto the runway and taxied to the
hangar. Glanced down at the right wheel and noticed the tire was going
flat. The 438th landing had done it in. Fuel burn calculated out to 2.07
gph. Took the wheel with the soft tire off and drove home thinking, what a
great day. It just does not get much better than this.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like the New Kolb did there homework on
this one. It all makes sense what Jack said. I will leave it where Kolb
prints show it. In the back of the tank. Thanks again fellas.
