--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Doug Lawton" <skyrider2@earthlink.net> John, Thanks for posting those beautiful pictures of your flying adventure to and from MV. That is truly some gorgeous scenery and reminds us of how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful country in spite of it's faults. It looks as though there is a lot of "rough" terrain between AL and MV. Do you always leave yourself "an out" for an emergency landing in the case of an engine failure when flying over all of that "tiger country"? Or do I just need to replace my little 2 stroke 503 with a "real" engine and stop worrying about it? ; ) The photos around Sandia Peak were of particular interest to me. I flew hang gliders off the peak many years ago so it brought back good memories of that area. Looking forward to your photos of the Big trip to Alaska. Fly Safely, Doug Lawton NE Georgia & Whitwell TN Matthews Field & Gliderport

I haven't been keeping up on the list that much lately, but didn't John Jung fly his 503 into MV? Now that is a great accomplishment! Were there any other 2-strokers that flew many miles to get there? Ralph Original Firestar

--> Kolb-List message posted by: Richard Pike <richard@bcchapel.org> For those that have an aircraft too small for the 912, here's something to ponder: talked to Chuck Slusarczyk, designer of the CGS Hawk at the indoor model meet in Johnson City last week, and he was very happy with the results of the HKS engine, and it's reliability. Thought it was an excellent unit and quite bulletproof. Said it made a bit more power than a 503, but not as much as a 582. Just for what it's worth... He said everything looked great, no problems. Many thanks to all those who helped with ideas and suggestions over the last 21 months of building, especially John Hauck who made several visits to my workshop to make sure I was doing things right. Many of you made contributions to my success without even knowing it starting as far back as 1996. Web sites of Ben Ransom, Will Uribe, and Kip Laurie were great motivators. Thanks again. James inspector, John Bergen, did the inspection on my MKIII 12 years ago. I chatted with him a short time on the phone today after James inspection was complete. We are fortunate to have people like John Bergen, and Lloyd Prost who gave James and me our PVT check rides. Good luck with your new bird. Fly safe and enjoy it. john h DO NOT ARCHIVE issues the airworthiness certificate. He said everything looked great, no problems. | James Tripp, FSII
