--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Jim Ballenger" <ulpilot@cavtel.net> Duane Keep those reports coming. I do like to read what others have to say about the flying characteristics of their planes so I can be as prepared as I can be when I fly my MK III X. I am going to start covering today. She loves the air but has a tendency to roll to the left. Tried to keep her straight with rudder but it did not work. I evoked the 'ole bungy-to-the-right fix. Inelegant but effective. Temps were all normal and that Lockwood double vacuum gage carb adjust procedure made her run very smooth. When I turned to final I found an ~10 mph cross wind but got her down with no problem. After 3 years with my Firefly this one felt like a C5A. > > Back in the hangar I noticed that the strut fairings were both fairly loose on the struts. I'll try to use them next time up. > > Duane the plane Mitchell, Tallahassee, FL, MK3/912c/IVO > > do not archive > >

--> Kolb-List message posted by: Richard Pike <richard@bcchapel.org> If it were me, I would leave it alone until you fly it. If you are getting 6350 static, you will get 6450-6500 on climbout, and about 6600 in full throttle level flight. Take any more pitch out of it and you'll be wondering why your EGT's are so high in cruise. I have the 582 propped for 6100 static and I get 6250 on climbout and 6500 full throttle level flight. I have tried taking out a bit more pitch to improve takeoff, but had to back off, because the EGT starts to go up. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Bob N." <ronoy@shentel.net> John made a successful run from the North Slope to North Pole (near Fairbanks) and will stay there with another old friend for a few days. They are going to Fifth-Wheel to Valdez for a little salmon fishing from shore. He may then continue with his original plans of flying back through Washington State and Oregon, then through Nevada, Utah, and Colorado, and home to Alabama. But maybe he'll go back north to Inuvik, NWT to see territory he's never visited. He says "Once I am home safely in Alabama, it is too late to fly to Inuvik." --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Larry Bourne" <biglar@gogittum.com> Hi John: Got to thinking the other day about your idea to fly to Inuvik. Food for thought...............a few years ago, I did a little research on a possible flight up there, and found that on the peninsula north of Inuvik is the town of Tuktoyaktuk. If I remember correctly, Inuvik is a replacement town in the MacKenzie River delta to replace, I think, Aklavik, which was, or is being, washed away. Hard to remember now, but Tuk's gravel peninsula is now being eroded by heavy winter seas that are no longer being suppressed by the heavy winter ice pack. Global warming and all, ya know. Might be the last chance to see that town, too, and it ain't much farther. Dreamer Lar, safe (??) in the desert. Do not Archive. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Richard Swiderski" <swiderski@isp.com> Duane, I sure enjoy reading about your experiments & trying to tweek the must out your plane. Regarding using the lift struts for yaw control, I think it would not be effective. The lift they would provide is negligible compared to the increase in drag produced. Using them as auxiliary wings has historically been shown to induce control problems. I don't recall the reasoning though. Probably the most efficient (& most impractical) would be to readjust the angle of incidence of one wing. The down tab on the appropriate aileron, I believe is the next best solution. Drag wise, I'd predict the bungie would edge out the trim tab for efficiency, but we are counting gnats at this point. ...Waiting for my redrive from Russia to clear customs, (& praying for heat in CA so I can beat Big Lar into the air) Richard Swiderski -----Original Message----- From: owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Larry Bourne Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Mk3/912 Roll to the left --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Larry Bourne" <biglar@gogittum.com> Heck of an idea........kind of like skinny ailerons, eh ?? --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Bob N." <ronoy@shentel.net> I think Bellanca tried ( late 20s) some really wide lift struts along with his very wide fuselages to get added lift. Gotta research this since am having trouble with onset of Oldtimer's Disease. Bob N. http://www.angelfire.com/rpg/ronoy Aug. story out tomorrow, July to the shredder.
