The only thing relentless around here is the b.s............... :-) Yah, I
was just up at my "valuable acreage" in the high desert yesterday, wondering
how I could ever afford to build up there on the mountain - where it's 10
cooler than here in the blast furnace......besides having a great view. If
I hafta use that as my airstrip, ANYone is welcome to beat me into the air.
I'd need a heli-chopter. Over Heated Lar in Palm Springs,
where it's forecast to go around 115 or more tomorrow. Oh Mercy ! ! !

      Giovanni,

My 582 with B drive did not go thru the vibration shaking stage on
startup. The reason (I believe) is that it was a conversion from a SeaDoo
watercraft. On that engine, Rotax used the Nipendenso ignition system. It
has a timing curve built in where the ignition timing is retarded at lower
rpms & only goes to full advance later. All or most Rotax/Bombardeer
engines use Nipensenso. For unknown reasons (probably for same reason they
switched to Bing Carbs-- because Micuni ,?spelling?, refused to sell their
carbs for aircraft use.)their aircraft engines use Ducati which does not
have a timing curve. All the aircraft Rotax versions only fire at full
advance, that is why they have the shakes at startup & shutdown. Airscrew
Performance's conversion throws out the Ducati & replaces it with Nipendenso
for that reason. The bigger rotaxes & the big bore 277 are harder hitting.
I agree the rubber dampner should lesson the effect. ...Richard

Hey Richard Swiderski....you really know this stuff don't you!!
Finally got my dimensions for the boat trailer to Kolb trailer conversion up
here in Ohio...and will start on it tomorrow.

A few days ago there was a question about where to put the anti-chafe tape on wings.
In addition to all the places mentioned, I put a piece across the top of
each gusset on the wing ribs. There is a sharp edge on those gussets that could
      cause problems.

I have had several request for a straight float (no wheels) configuration for
a Firefly that is still within part 103 weight limitations. The FAA only
allows a total of 60 lbs for this addition. I have done the preliminary
calculations and I believe that it can be done. I have already started on this
      project
so if anyone has any interest Or ideas I would be happy to hear them.

      INSIDE SCOOP ON Big Lar:

Ok guys, I found out what the problem is with Big Lar. He holed up
at my place a couple of days last month & I got a peek into his shall we
say, "unique" mind. The plane fact is that he knows too much about too many
things & enjoys them all (with great success) entirely too much as well.
His hopeless attraction to these divergent interests will probably insure
that I finish my project this decade before he does. The unbearable triple
digit heat is merely a ruse to disguise his problem & is only a minor
      contributing factor in my favor.

      Bob Bean:

Congratulations on your accomplishment! I had a taste of what you
went thru in jetting my old twin carb Cuyuna with its notorious 3/4
throttle hot spot. I spent more than 10 hours taming that & it pales in
comparison. I am anticipating your results!

Looks like the gloves are off... Swiderski vs Bourne. If the temps
      drop below the boiling
point in PS, bigLar might have the edge. Will the first hop take
      place at the strip at

Looking at the string on carb fine-tuning, I have a new respect for the
      subject. By far
the most brain taxing portion of doing the suzuki powerplant has been
      getting the
mixture curve on my solex to agree with my homebrew induction plumbing.
Only today, blessed with a rare perfect day, have I attained a
      combination of jetting
that i can confidently accept for the upcoming test period. -This is
      after putting over
10 hours on the tach doing relentless tiedown testing. This is what
      you get into
using non-standard everything. BB, MkIIIc, N3851E, yet to pull off
