Hi Rick/Gang: Thanks for the pics of your flight to OSH. I particularly enjoyed the pics of Mackinac Bridge and the low level flight into the UL airstrip at OSH. Sure missed being there and landing with you all this year. Extremely happy your redrive problem caused only an inconvenience, rather than the alternatives. Good luck getting the redrive and the VW powered MKIII back into the air. I am still struggling through Mastercard receipts and attempts to reorganize my personal admin tasks. Amazing how much stuff can happen when one is away from the books for 48 days. No sweat, when I finish the books, then it is outside into the unmerciful heat to cut knee and waste high grass and weeds, just for a starter. Was more fun on the fly.................. Does anyone know of others on the Kolb list that lives in this area of Florida? I haven't looked at the news yet today, but knowing that it was a category 4 hurricane I know that there is major damage where it went onshore and some miles inland. My prayers go out to all of those folks. Living 35 miles inland on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and working on the coast, I am very aware of the aftermath these storms leave. We were very fortunate here to have a cool front move in that pushed the storms away from our area. Not very often we get low 60 degree temps in August. The really bad part is it's not over yet. There are more depressions out there now and who knows what they will do or where they will end up going. God bless all of you. I modified the existing lever so that the knob is relocated in a position to correct the problem. You can see the mod on the bottom of: http://www.thirdshift.com/jack/firefly/firefly21.html Today I flew up to Ste. Genevieve for a little grass strip flyin along the Mississippi River. Could not stay long, and as I was waited for runway access, four Kolbs touched down right in front of me. Quite a sight. Jack B. Jokers: Let's get a Gummint Grant fer the engines, and then use it to tow BigLar's Lawn Ornament to next Sun 'n Fun. Seriously(?), if you could get that sucker in a 90 bank, you could race it. OK, maybe need a bit of wing, BUTT great possibilities. My Himax flying buddy and myself left our home base just north of Chisholm MN to visit a friend that fly's a Preceptor pup. He's about 30 miles SE of us. We left at about 6:00 pm so the air wasn't quite as rough as it was in the afternoon. At about 1500 agl the bumps smoothed out and flight was a non event till we got to Zim. When we dropped to 500' it was just a rockin and a rollin. All the way there we had a 15 mph wind from the west and the gusts now were coming directly from the south. Needless to say, The landing really I mean really kept you on your toes. We BS'ed for a while and all three of us took off. Cruised around the Zim area for a short time because it was getting late. The Zim area is allot of fun for us. It's all flat farm land with a few trees. North of Chisholm is Trees and more trees. The wind from the west never did let up so we didn't make it back to home base till 8:45 Thank god we both have strobes. That was probably the best flight of the summer so far.
