I can forward messages and numbers. Make her an offer....need I say more. ps...Mr. Alexander, pat the FSII on the nose for me, willya my friend? Hope all is well in Joisey. I have a legal Firefly, and would like to keep it legal...with the added virtue of a float. I have too many projects now to take that project on myself. Though I have given it some thought and am experienced with fiberglass. I, too, think it could be done within 60 lbs with careful workmanship. Please let me know how you are doing. Here the fields are big enough to turn around in but are surrounded by trees. I like to fly low and "pop" over the trees just high enough to clear them. I try to get myself lost as if in a maze. Once or twice I had to get a little altitude to figure out where I was. Fly for fun. You have successfully made the journey across the pond. Tell us something about yourself. I fly an old Mark III my Brother Jim and I built back in 1991. Flew for the first time March 1992. The airframe now has 2,238.9 hours. It is powered by a Rotax 912ULS that was installed new in the Spring of 2000. As of the last flight it now has 893.0 hours. I have been building, flying, breaking, rebuilding, and cross country'ing Kolb airplanes for the last 20 years. Built and broke all three of them at least once, and some more than once: 1984 Ultrastar, 1987 Firestar, and a 1992 Mark III. Kolbs are all I fly and all I have a desire to fly, unless something comes along to replace my old Mark III. So far, I am happy tooting around in my well worn Kolb. Again, welcome aboard. There is a wealth of info on the List and in the Archives. All you have to do is ask. I may try to find one and start from there, but it has to be a factory Quick build. I will post progress as we go. If anyone knows of a quickbuild let me know. When complete we will have a bolt on tested solution with factory parts steve boetto cuttin trees and fillin generators ________________________________ Message 13 ____________________________________ Time: 06:06:15 PM PST US From: "Michael Sharp" Subject: Kolb-List: Inspections and Hello's --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Michael Sharp" Hello gang, I'm not a "new" member exactly, but I've been dormant for a few years. Didn't expect to see much because of the declining state of basic aviation here in upstate NY. I was surprised to see several planes, all taildraggers, one hughes 300. A beautiful day and some pleasant chatter. The only thing missing was I REALLY WISHED I HAD THAT KOLB THERE! Ach, what a yearning. Tomorrow, weather permitting, the wings are coming off for transport to my test area . What cruise speed do you realistically get with a Kolbra, using an 80 hp engine? The TNK site lists the cruise at 85 mph, but that seems kinda low for that much power. They also list only 1100 fpm climb solo with the Jabiru. That seems low as well. Also, what's the real cost of a Jabiru 2200 (80 HP)? I've seen them for about $10K, but wonder what else is needed. For example, the HKS "only" costs about $6500, but you end up adding $1500-$2000 to get the rest of the stuff that goes with it (exhaust, oil tanks, cooler, etc). Thanks, Rusty (leaning toward another SS)
